Naming/Renaming City Facilities – Recommendation to City Council Mr. Maynard moved the draft Parks & Facility Naming Policy be submitted to the City Council for review. Motion seconded by Mr. Tracey. Motion unanimously approved and passed. Plat Reviews/Dedication, or Fee in Lieu of Land – Monthly Update None. Director’s Report Staffing – Update Ms. Schwiesow’s old Recreation Supervisor position has not been filled yet but hopefully will soon. Surf ‘n Slide – Update The spray pad didn’t work when we started up this year. Unfortunately, a lot of the plumbing to the pool is underneath concrete, so for the second year in a row we had to jack hammer out the sidewalk where the surge tank is outside of the old Swedburg bathhouse, which is our new equipment mechanical room. Engineers have assured us we should not have to deal with this problem next year, however, if we do have another problem next year and have to take the concrete up again we will install a door to make access to the plumbing easier. We also had to have both pumps sent to Portland to be rebuilt. The attendance at the pool has been good so far this year and Tacos Mi Casa is doing a good job providing concessions. Discussion held. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 14, 2017 Events – Update Upcoming events include the Run with a Mission event on June 17; Sporty’s Car Show on June 17; the Big Bass Tournament Trail which runs from June 23-25; and the Boys and Girls Club Duck Derby on July 8. Ms. Schwiesow’s Report The go live date for our new Active Net online registration software is August 29. As we get closer to that date we will post information on our website, Facebook, and send out notify me emails letting our customers know about the new registration process. The Museum & Art Center has a new show that opened last Friday called Uprooted. They also had a book signing last night with Matthew Sullivan. It went really well and they are ordering more of his books. The Washington Museum Association is holding their annual conference at our Museum next week. School is out next week and we have some of our programs starting soon, including the new Mermaid University swim lessons. Commission Questions/Comments Mr. Maynard asked about the City’s policy regarding trucks and BBQ grills next to trees in the parks; asked about removing the concrete at the pool and replacing it with another material so it doesn’t have to be taken up again in the future; reported that portions of the sidewalk at Neppel Park are in need of repair; asked about the City’s policy regarding drones in the park; and said that there are not enough garbage cans and they are not being emptied in a timely manner. Discussion held. Ms. Quilter asked about the progress of the Pioneer Meadows Trail project. Mr. Grigg has not received an update for a while. He will find out and let everyone know. She also asked if we have a smoking ordinance in our parks. Discussion held. Ms. Rios asked about the progress of her suggestion for new sand volleyball courts. Mr. Grigg reported that it is still being discussed. Ms. Schwiesow commented that we just put a lot of new white sand in the volleyball courts at the pool. Mr. Tracey asked about signage and ordinances regarding no swimming or fishing around boat docks. Discussion held. Mr. Lange asked about the lack of baby swings at our parks. Discussion held. Adjournment Ms. Quilter moved to adjourn. Motion seconded by Mr. Lange. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
