Approval of Minutes of Prior Meeting Ms. Swinger moved the draft minutes of December 13, 2017, be approved as submitted. Motion seconded by Mr. Maynard. Motion unanimously approved and passed. Communication/Correspondence None Program Promotion - Monthly Update Ms. Schwiesow reports that the February Family Saturday at the MAC had attendance of 210 people, and the falconry program had an attendance of 65 people. Ms. Schwiesow indicates that both programs had really good turnouts. Ms. Schwiesow advised that the upcoming event at the MAC will be March 2, 2018, which will be cyber art. Spring Brochure is online and will be on hand the 22nd of February. The Spring Brochure includes some new programs such as summer day camp, roller skating at the ice rink, pickle ball, stand-up paddle board, and an indoor walking program. Ms. Schwiesow advises that Carrie Hoiness has been working very hard on the programs and that she is excited for what is coming up. Discussion held regarding pickle ball and the stand- up paddle boarding programs. Discussion held regarding Troy White’s mobile rental business. Plat Reviews/Dedication, or Fee in Lieu of Land - Monthly Update Mr. Grigg comments regarding the Crossroads Major Plat and Leah Major Plat and addresses how much is going into the Fee in Lieu fund. Discussion further held. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES February 14, 2018 Director’s Report Ice Rink – Update – Mr. Grigg indicates the last day of operation at the ice rink will be February 25th. Reports that last weekend the ice rink hosted an adult hockey tournament and that it went pretty well. There were a couple of teams that did drop out. However, all and all the tournament did go well. Discussion held regarding the beer garden at the venue. Larson Recreation Center Redesign - Update Mr. Grigg reports that there will be a meeting with the architects on March 1, 2018, and at that time they will be addressing the issue with the column in the middle of the floor. Discussion further held. Commission Questions/Comments Mr. Grigg addresses the issues with the porta-potties and that they are being checked and regularly maintained. Comments regarding the Pioneer Meadows Trail project and indicates it is a challenging project. Mr. Grigg comments regarding the issue that MAC openings/receptions can no longer have alcohol and looking at creating a 501C3 entity. Discussion further held. Mr. Grigg indicates that the capital budget did pass and there is a bit of a backlog on the grants. Mr. Grigg indicates that things are moving forward with the demolition of the poles for the lights at Larson. Mr. Grigg comments that we are likely going to apply for a Lauzier grant for scoreboards and to automate the lighting system at the Lauzier Complex. Discussion further held regarding grants awarded and the upgrading of the scoreboards and lights, when that work would take place, signage, and sponsorships. The goal is that before the new baseball season kicks off there will be new sponsor signage on “A” Field. Mr. Maynard asks if the trails could be swept once a month. Mr. Grigg indicates that he can speak with public works and see if some of their heavier equipment could do that or possibly a sweeper could be purchased. Mr. Maynard comments regarding the weeds at Monty Holmes’ property, they are very large and need to be taken care of. Mr. Grigg indicates he will do his homework on sweeping the trails and looking into the weeds at Monty Holmes’ property. Discussion further held. Adjournment Mr. Maynard moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Lange. Meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
