Motion seconded by Mr. Harshman. Motion unanimously approved and passed. Correspondence/Communication/Committee Reports 1. Creative District – Ms. Boyd shared an update on the Summer Concert Series, highlighting the highest attendance thus far was July 4th Celebration. She advised the final concert is scheduled on August 23, 2024. Ms. Boyd shared that the Umani Festival is coming up at the end of September. 2. Arts Committee – Ms. Boyd shared that the committee is looking for another member from the community and the annual priorities are set and the committee will work on those once the committee is full again this fall. 3. Code Development & Design Standards Committee – Mr. Coutts shared there is no news to report as the entire code is still under review and they are hoping to have it completed by the end of this year. Museum Update Ms. Boyd shared the exhibit pods are set to return at the end of summer, and highlights from July including art shows, museum classes, Mobile Rec visitations throughout the summer, and exhibit text going on the new exhibit pods. Ms. Boyd also shared that the museum is looking at ways to expand extra-curricular activities for school age kids in the community. She also shared data on museum field trips since 2019 and how the staff will focus on continuing these in Moses Lake and surrounding school districts. Recreation Update Ms. Hoiness shared a brief update on recreation programs and activities, collaborating with the school district as able, and putting the fall/winter brochure together. She went onto advise that summer activities and facilities are shifting gears soon, including the water park and roller rink both closing for the season, and day camp and Mobile Rec both ending for the season. 1 PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURAL SERVICES August 14, 2024 ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES Parks Update Mr. Aukett shared that crews continue to work through summer maintenance tasks including weed control, general landscaping and pruning, and irrigation. He went on to advise that the well being drilled in Peninsula Park is on schedule and the pump build and installation will be completed next, which will irrigate both Peninsula Park and Larson Playfield, taking it off potable water. Mr. Aukett shared upcoming water conservation projects including landscaping of medians and sidewalks to reduce water usage. He mentioned that work will ensue on the chiller for the ice rink beginning next week to get it up and running for the ice rink season. Mr. Aukett also advised that work continues to be done on Harrison K. Dano Park for both street access to the park and installation of the futsal courts. He also shared that their full-time maintenance crew is now fully staffed. Director’s Report 1. Current Projects – Mr. Coutts shared brief update on current projects including Dano Park futsal courts, ice arena chiller and sound system, and pump projects for Neppel Landing, Marina Park, and Japanese Gardens. 2. Grant Applications – Mr. Coutts shared that presentations are occurring next week. 3. Water Conservation Plans – Mr. Coutts shared that planter strips and medians throughout the City have been assessed and a design developed to update these by replacing turf grass with basalt rock and draught-resistant plants. He went on to share that these updates will reduce both the water usage and department’s water usage budget. 4. Tennis Court Conversion to Pickleball Courts – Mr. Coutts shared information from the previous board meeting’s discussion about converting two of the tennis courts at McCosh Park to pickleball courts. He mentioned that this project is not in the comp plan nor is there dedicated funding for this project proposal. Some public comment took place in support of converting the courts and there was a brief board discussion to understand the options available. Mr. Harshman moved to recommend Mr. Coutts to research options, associated cost of materials, and volunteer support to complete the conversion to pickleball courts. Motion seconded by Mr. Valdez. Motion unanimously approved. Adjournment Mr. Harshman moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion seconded by Mr. Valdez. Motion unanimously approved.
