MINUTES
Members Present: Bren Romano Monteiro, Chair; Brad Dunnells, Ann
McGahey, Frank Sonntag, Kathryn Whitaker
Members Absent: Corey Alston, Kelly Trager
Staff Present: Nicole Harvey
Ms. Monteiro called the meeting to order at 12:07 p.m.
1. Approval of Minutes from the June 10, 2020 meeting
Ms. McGahey made a motion to approve the June 10, 2020 minutes. Mr.
Sonntag seconded the motion. All were in favor.
2. Public Comments
None
3. Report from Subcommittees
a. Town Hall Art
Ms. Monteiro said they were allowing artists who currently have art
hung at Town Hall to bring more pictures to swap them out.
Ms. Harvey said Mr. Konstantin Voronin, Mr. Dave Harrison, and
Ms. Vanessa Grebe were bringing in more pictures.
b. Sculpture
Ms. Harvey said this was on hold with the College of Charleston
and they hope to have an update in August or September.

Ms. Harvey said there is a Culture, Arts & Pride (CAP) Facebook
post with pictures of the painted shells. She said Ms. Cecilia
Brown with The Moultrie News was doing a story on the oysters.
d. Traffic Box Art
Ms. Harvey said they would be accepting submissions and would
select those in September.
e. Paint the Town
Ms. Harvey said the new mural was completed at Bowman Place
and she was working on a press release to put out.
f. It’s Raining Art
Mr. Sonntag said they worked on installing some poems, but the
effect was not good.
Ms. Harvey said Belle Hall Shopping Center expressed some
interest via the Facebook page in doing some.
g. Marketing
Ms. Harvey said they have 275 Instagram followers and 525
Facebook followers. She said they have had great media and print
coverage lately.
h. Emerging Arts
Ms. Monteiro said they met with Lucy Beckham’s principal, Ms. Anna
Dassing, along with Ms. Marie Claire (Alex) Valdez and Mr. Eric
Henson, two art teachers. She shared a presentation with some
great ideas, and they wanted projects to be student lead.
Ms. Monteiro said if they could give Lucy Beckham High some sort of
budget, they would be able to do more with it and money for
something towards performing arts.
Ms. Harvey said it was the beginning of a new fiscal year. She
reviewed the budget and said that she would email it to them so
they could make adjustments.
The Commission discussed the Civic Pride Award that they need
to award soon.

Mr. Dunnells asked with regard to the budget if they would
have to think about what a dollar amount would be for a performing
arts component and would readjust those accordingly.
Ms. Monteiro answered in the affirmative.
i. Culture
The Commission discussed their previous conversations about
a performing arts center at Rifle Range Road along with donations and
fundraising. They also discussed a documentary and possibly having
money in the budget.
4. New Business
Mr. Dunnells said he would like to join Emerging Arts and Culture
subcommittees.
5. Adjourn
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 12:52 p.m.
