TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Monday, March 1, 2021 Municipal Complex, Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES Members Present: Kathy Landing, Chair; Laura Hyatt, and Tom O’Rourke Absent: Rick Crosby (MPW) Staff Present: Eric DeMoura, Town Administrator; and Christiane Farrell, Assistant Town Administrator 1. Call to order Ms. Landing called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes from the February 1, 2021 meeting Mr. O’Rourke moved for approval; seconded by Ms. Hyatt. All present voted in favor. 3. Public Comments [None] 4. Review of economic development initiatives and successes Mr. DeMoura stated that the Economic Development and Business Development duties have been assigned to several individuals throughout the executive offices for a number of months. He stated that on the economic development side there have been several wins and successes and there are several projects that fit in with the target industries for Mount Pleasant. Christiane Farrell, Assistant Town Administrator, presented the following information on initiatives and successes to Committee members. Ms. Farrell reviewed the Vacant Commercial Spaces, which is also being utilized by the Charleston County Economic Development. Update on quality of life initiatives Ms. Landing stated that when people love to live somewhere, they typically love to bring their business there as well. Ms. Farrell provided an update to Committee. Ms. Farrell stated that staff is ready to proceed on the Reusable Bag project. Ms. Landing stated that the initial idea was to have this as a way to promote an environmentally friendly approach that works with businesses. She said this could be offered to businesses to sell as a promotional item and a way to have people take Mount Pleasant home with them as a souvenir. r O’Rourke e u e o o or roje 6. Proposed is to amend the entire ordinance to address several concerns, including but not limited to such things as lowering the maximum number of allowed short term rentals, annual renewal requirements and submittal processes, and violations and penalties for noncompliance. b. Rezoning Case: R-06-21 Dunes West PD Amendment. Application to amend the Dunes West PD, Planned Development District ordinance, to incorporate into the PD an approximately 9.05-acre tract of land comprised of two parcels located off Bessemer Road in Covington at Park West at the terminus of Hopkins Road. Proposed is to designate the parcels similar to Covington Phases 1 and 2, as DW-PD R-3 within the PD, but to utilize the DW-PD R-1 minimum lot size and lot coverage. Staff Report 7.
