AUGUST 20, 2024
MINUTES
Staff Report
Present: David Quick, Chair, Susan Johnson, Andrea Martin, Lia Colabello, Rachel
Honderd, Jim Westerhold, Olivia Flynn, Mary Conley, Jaclyn Busching.
Staff: Michele Reed, Liz Boyles, Chris Lubert, Kara Browder, Jillian Grimes,
Kate Miller, John Farrell, Lynnette Lynes
Also: Quinn Wallover and Zack Akinjobi, Mount Pleasant Waterworks
Mr. Quick called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm.
A. Approval of Agenda
Ms. Flynn moved for approval of the agenda. Ms. Honderd seconded the
motion. All in favor.
B. Approval of July Minutes
Ms. Flynn moved for approval of the minutes. Ms. Honderd seconded the
motion. All in favor.
C. Public Comment
There being no comments, Mr. Quick continued with the agenda.
D. MPW Pollinator-Friendly Easements
Ms. Boyles introduced Ms. Guinn Wallover and Mr. Zack Akinjobi from Mount
Pleasant Waterworks.
Ms. Wallover and Mr. Akinjobi reviewed the pollinator-friendly easement
program with the Commission.
The Commission discussed the program and offered suggestions such as using
all native plants and signage.

The Commission agreed that this was an important plan and they look forward to
seeing the program as it develops.
E. Comprehensive Plan Review Overview
Ms. Boyles reviewed the Comprehensive Plan update with the Commission.
The Commission suggested a workshop to review the Comprehensive Plan
update and to have a shared document where comments can be made in one
location.
F. Canopy Restoration Program Draft
Ms. Boyles reviewed the draft restoration program with the Commission.
The Commission suggested that the preference should be for native species and
fruit trees and that a photo of the proposed site should be included with the
application.
Ms. Colabello left at this time (4:02 pm).
Mr. Conley moved for approval of the Canopy Restoration Program with the
minor modifications discussed at the meeting. Ms. Busching seconded the motion.
All in favor.
G. Plant Sale Sponsorship Opportunities
Ms. Boyles reviewed sponsorship opportunities with the Commission.
Ms. Honderd moved for approval for support of the sponsorship opportunities
as reviewed at the meeting. Ms. Johnson seconded the motion. All in favor.
H. Updates
Ms. Boyles updated the Commission on upcoming projects and outreach
opportunities. She stated that the next tree give away would be during Children’s
Day on October 20, 2024.

Mr. Farrell read the letter of support for the National Wildlife Federation
Community Wildlife Habitat Certification that was approved at last month’s
meeting for signature by the Chair.
The Commission asked that staff provide an update on the impact of Hurricane
Debby.
The Commission asked that there be discussion at the next meeting to move
the meeting date and the possibility of video recording.
Mr. Quick noted that there is a Native Symposium on October 10, 2024 for
anyone that would like to attend.
Mr. Quick asked that Announcements be included on future agendas.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:25 pm.
