TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION VIDEO CONFERENCE MEETING AUGUST 13, 2020 MINUTES YouTube Streaming Link: https://youtu.be/_QKyDFY5yyY Present: Patrick Morrissey, Vice-chair, Deborah Sutherland, Alisha Davenport, Courtney Theis, Antonio White, Theresa Gordon, Bryan Blalock Absent: Richard Gutowski Staff: Kate Miller, Matthew Nofsinger, Jane Yager-Baumrind Mr. Morrissey called the meeting to order at 8 am. I. Approval of Agenda Ms. Sutherland moved to approve the agenda. Ms. Gordon seconded the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of Minutes Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the minutes. Mr. Blalock seconded the motion. All in favor. III. Public Comment There being no comments, Mr. Morrissey continued with the agenda. IV. Staff Update Ms. Miller reviewed the staff update with the Commission. V. Intern Final Report Mr. Nofsinger updated the Board on the worked he performed and reviewed his report with the Board VI. Committee Action Items A. Public Education Committee 1. Begin Discussion on Black History Month Ms. Miller stated that Mr. Gutowski wanted to start discussion of the events for Black History Month 2021. The Commission discussed what type events should be scheduled. B. Special Collection Committee 1. Action on Collected Newspapers Ms. Miller shared with the Commission the list of articles Mr. Nofsinger put together and asked the Board what they would like to do moving forward. Historical Commission August 13, 2020 Page 2 of 2 Mr. Morrissey moved to revisit maintaining the COIVD-19 Articles in the History Room. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. C. Tourism Committee 1. Create Passport Program with Video The Commission discussed the Passport Program and how it should be implemented. Ms. Sutherland moved to continue with the development of a Passport Program with videos and maps and implement this program by end of September 2020 with a nominal fee cost. Ms. Gordon seconded this motion. All in favor. 2. Create Color Coded Maps/Walking Tours The Commission discussed expanding the walking tour program. Ms. Gordon moved to move forward and identify markers and create maps for walking tours. Mr. Blalock seconded the motion. All in favor. D. Organization and Administration Committee 1. Budget Ms. Theis reviewed the proposed fiscal year budget with the Commission. The Commission discussed potential changes to the budget and how the funds should be distributed for the upcoming year. They agreed to continue discussion at the next meeting. VII. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items The Commission agreed that the following items should be discussed at the next meeting: ➢ Black History Month ➢ Passport Program ➢ FY 2021 Budget There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:14 am.
