TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION SEPTEMBER 10, 2020 MINUTES YouTube Streaming Link: https://youtu.be/XFIeWPuEOSU Present: Patrick Morrissey, vice-chair, Deborah Sutherland, Bryan Blalock, Courtney Theis, Theresa Gordon. Absent: Richard Gutowski, Antonio White. Staff: Kate Miller, Lynnette Lynes Mr. Morrissey called the meeting to order at 8:03 am. I. Approval of Agenda Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the agenda. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of Minutes Ms. Sutherland moved for approval with the removal of Alisha Davenport as she is no longer a Commission member and noting that Mr. White was absent. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. III. Public Comment Mr. Walter Brown, Jr. stated that his son Walter Brown, III is willing to help with Black History Month and introduced his son to the Commission. Mr. Walter Brown, III, 437 Venning, stated that he would like to help with scheduling and holding events for Black History Month in February 2021. There being no further comments, Mr. Morrissey continued with the agenda. IV. Staff Update Ms. Miller updated the Commission on staff items.  Historical Commission September 10, 2020 Page 2 of 3 V. Committee Action Items A. Public Education Committee 1. Discuss potential Black History Month Events Ms. Miller clarified that Mr. White and Mr. Gutowski are on the Committee. The Commission discussed some ideas for Black History Month and agreed to continue discussion at the next meeting. B. Special Collection Committee (No report) C. Tourism Committee 1. Update on Passport Program Ms. Sutherland updated the Commission on the Passport program. The Commission agreed that this should be on the agenda for next month. 2. Create Color Coded Maps/Walking Tours Ms. Gordon updated the Commission on the progress of the map and walking tours. The Commission discussed what other topics could be included. The Commission agreed that topics suggestions should be sent out prior to the next meeting for review and approval. D. Organization and Administration Committee (No report) VI. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items The Commission agreed that the following items should be included on next month’s agenda: ➢ Maps/Walking Tours ➢ Black History Month  Historical Commission September 10, 2020 Page 3 of 3 ➢ Passport Program ➢ Advertising for Upcoming Events ➢ Update on Additional NFC Labels needed There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:51 am.
