TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION VIDEO CONFERENCE MEETING OCTOBER 8, 2020 MINUTES YouTube Streaming Link: https://youtu.be/R4b1x8Ny6h8 Present: Richard Gutowski, Chair, Deborah Sutherland, Bryan Blalock, Courtney Theis, Theresa Gordon. Absent: Patrick Morrissey, Antonio White. Mr. Gutowski called the meeting to order at 8:02 am. I. Approval of Agenda Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the agenda. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of Minutes Ms. Gordon moved for approval of the minutes. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. III. Public Comment None IV. History Room Survey Research Presentation Ms. Miller introduced Ms. Cari Goetcheus, who conducted the research study on the settlement community areas within the Town. Ms. Cari Goetcheus reviewed her research with the Commission. The Commission agreed to further discuss this issue at the next meeting on how to move the project and information forward. V. Staff Update Ms. Miller reviewed the staff update with the Commission. VI. Committee Action Items A. Public Education Committee 1. Discuss Potential Black History Month Events Mr. Gutowski updated the Commission on the possible events as follows: ➢ Outdoor concert on June 19th for Juneteenth. ➢ Black Greek community--Fraternities and sororities ➢ Settlement communities ➢ Edmund Jenkins B. Special Collection Committee (No Report)  Historical Commission October 8, 2020 Page 2 of 2 C. Tourism Committee 1. Update on Passport Program Ms. Sutherland and Ms. Gordon updated the Commission on the progress of the project. Ms. Gordon moved for approval of the passport program as presented. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. 2. Create Color Coded Maps/Walking Tours Ms. Gordon updated the Commission on the progress of this project. Ms. Gordon moved for approval to order 50 NFC labels, not to exceed $200. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. D. Organization and Administration Committee (No Report) VII. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items The Commission agreed to discuss the following items at their next meeting: ➢ African-American Research Study Project ➢ Black History Month ➢ Cresco Award There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:40 am.
