TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION JUNE 10, 2021 MINUTES Present: Deborah Sutherland, Chair, Gibson Hopper, Pam Gabriel, Bryan Blalock, Courtney Theis, William Hine, Danielle Cox. Staff: Kate Miller, Lynnette Lynes Ms. Sutherland called the meeting to order at 8:07 am. 1. Approval of Agenda Ms. Gabriel moved for approval of the agenda. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. 2. Approval of Minutes Ms. Gabriel moved for approval of the minutes. Mr. Hopper seconded the motion. All in favor. 3. Public comment There being no comments, Ms. Sutherland continued with the agenda. 4. Staff Update Ms. Miller reviewed the staff report with the Commission. The Commission agreed that the Sweetgrass basket project would be coordinated with Cultural, Arts, and Pride Commission through the Tourism Committee. 5. Committee Action items A. Organization and Administration Committee 1. Discussion and action on Committee Assignments and Expansion of Tasks Ms. Theis reviewed the assignments with the Commission and asked that the Committees meet at least once a month and take ownership of their assigned projects.  Historical Commission June 10, 2021 Page 2 of 3 2. Action and Update on Budget Ms. Theis updated the Commission on the budget and items that could be purchased for the history room. Ms. Theis moved for approval of purchasing a scanner, external hard drive and resource book as recommended by staff not to exceed the amount remaining in the budget. Ms. Cox seconded the motion. All in favor. B. Historical Markers and Interpretation Committee 1. Update on Scanlonville Monument and Park No update C. Special Collection and Research Committee 1. Discuss and Create Oral History Project Completion Plan No update D. Tourism and Community Outreach Committee 1. Discussion on Future Projects Recommended by HDPC Ms. Miller stated that the HDPC has made a few recommendations for possible projects the Commission could take on. 2. Discuss French/Spanish Invasion Project Mr. Blalock updated the Commission on this project. He stated that he is meeting with Doug Bostick. E. Marketing Committee F. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items The Commission agreed that the following items should be included on next month’s agenda: ➢ Possible expansion of OV virtual tour ➢ Discussion on possible museum—August agenda item ➢ Finalize Committee assignments and tasks ➢ Six Mile Marker project ➢ CAP project ➢ French/Spanish invasion Project There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:56 am.
