TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION NOVEMBER 10, 2022 MINUTES Present: Courtney Theis, Vice Chair, Brian Blalock, William Hine, Gibson Hopper, Pam Gabriel. Absent: Deborah Sutherland, Chair, Danielle Cox. Staff: Kate Miller, Aaron Bennett Ms. Theis called the meeting to order at 8:06 AM I. Approval of Agenda Mr. Blalock moved for approval of the agenda. Mr. Hine seconded the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of October 13, 2022 Minutes Ms. Theis moved for approval of the minutes. Mr. Blalock seconded the motion. All in favor. III. Public Comment There being no comments Ms. Theis continued with the agenda. IV. Staff Update- Ms. Miller reviewed the staff update with the commission. V. Discuss 2023 meeting schedule The Commission discussed changing the meeting time from the existing 8 AM time. The Commission agreed to defer until next month. VI. Committee Action Items A. Organization and Administration Committee Ms. Theis provided update to the Commission on the budget and possible directory. B. Historical Markers and Interpretation Committee 1. Discussion and Action on Jennie Moore School text Ms. Gabriel provided update on Jennie Moore School marker. Mr. Hine moved to adopt the current Jennie Moore School text as presented with the amendment to correct spelling in “Phillips.” Mr. Hopper seconded the motion. All in favor. Historical Commission November 10, 2022 Page 2 of 2 C. Special Collection and Research Committee 1. Discussion and Action on intern for History Room Mr. Hopper provided update on intern for history room. Ms. Gabriel moved to interview candidate for history room to work 4 hours a week for 5 weeks pending positive result from interview. Mr. Blalock seconded the motion. All in favor. D. Tourism and Community Outreach Committee 1. Discussion and Action on Light Parade Mr. Blalock provided update on Light Parade. Mr. Blalock moved to increase tourism light parade budget from $275 to $400 for lights, candy, and other necessities. Ms. Gabriel seconded the motion. All in favor. E. Marketing Committee No update provided. F. Black History Month Committee 1. Discussion and possible action on Black History Month Events Mr. Hine provided update on proposed Black History Month events. Mr. Hine moved to approve four programs for Black History Month as discussed with the understanding that there may be a few changes. Ms. Gabriel seconded the motion. All in favor. VII. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items The Commission agreed to next month’s agenda items as follows: 1. Update and Action on Budget 2. Vote on Commission Directory 3. Vote on Proposed Marker Program 4. Update on Intern 5. Update and possible action on Black History Month. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:54 am.
