TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA SPECIAL PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE OCTOBER 19, 2021 MINUTES Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room PowerPoint Presentation Present: Laura Hyatt, Howard Chapman, Brenda Corley. Absent: Guang Ming Whitley, Chair. Staff: Eric DeMoura, Michele Reed, David Pagliarini, Michael Robertson Mr. Chapman called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm. 1. Public Comments Mr. Charlie Carmody, 107 New Street, representative for Simmons, Herring, and Armstrong families that own property on Ben Sawyer and Center Streets. He stated that they are approved for development of a hotel and would like to proceed with that project. He stated that his understanding is that possible changes to allowing hotels is being discussed. Mr. Michael Bennett stated that he is the developer of the proposed hotel that Mr. Carmody mentioned. He stated that he would like to be able to continue with the project on the property. There being no further comments, Mr. Chapman continued with the agenda. 2. Discussion and possible action regarding repealing of the Boulevard Overlay District Ms. Reed reviewed the request with the Committee. The Committee discussed possible negative consequences to repealing the Boulevard Overlay District. Ms. Hyatt moved to recommend to Town Council approval of repealing the Boulevard Overlay District. Ms. Corley seconded the motion.  Special Planning Committee October 19, 2021 Page 2 of 2 Ms. Hyatt withdrew her motion. Ms. Corley withdrew her second. The Commission agreed that this should move forward to the Planning Commission for a public hearing. 3. Discussion and possible action regarding proposed ordinance amendments that effectuate the Accommodation Zones/uses as outlined in the 2019 Comprehensive Plan Ms. Reed reviewed the request with the Committee. The Committee discussed possible amendments regarding accommodation uses. The Committee agreed that this should be included on the November Committee agenda for further discussion.
