Present: Perry Rourk, Chair; Tripp Cuttino; Ken Ayoub; Greer

I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 1:03 p.m..
II. Approval of minutes from the June 20, 2023 Recreation
Advisory Commission meeting
Mr. Ayoub motioned to approve and seconded by Mr. Cuttino
and Mr. Hanlon; all in favor.
III. Public Comment
There were no public comments.
IV. Discussion and possible action regarding a recommendation
to the Health, Recreation and Events Committee for the “Open
Space” area approved as part of Scheme B for the Faison Road
Property.
Mr. Perry opened the discussion on the “Open Space” area and
asked the commission for their thoughts and ideas on how the
space could be used. Discussion followed.
Mr. Perry made a recommendation to the Health, Recreation
and Events Committee that the area identified as “Open Space” in
Scheme B for the Faison Road Property be retained for public use.
Mr. Ayoub motioned to approve and seconded by Ms. Cormack; all
in favor.
V. Update on Recreation Referendum and MPRD Capital and
Maintenance Projects
Mr. Gergick provided an update on current projects to include
Memorial Waterfront Park, Carolina Park Phase 3, Rifle Range
Road, Park West Pool and Whipple Road Tennis Center expansion.
Mr. Ayoub asked if there was movement on access to school
district playgrounds and Mr. Gergick said the request was denied.
Discussion followed.
Mr. Ayoub asked that the Charleston County School District
(CCSD) playground issue be placed on the agenda for the next
meeting and Mr. Rourk replied in the affirmative.
Mr. Rourk and Ms. Cormack spoke on an article featuring
summer swim league swimming.
Mr. Rourk stated that the youth triathlon was fun to watch and
staff did a great job.
VI. Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 1:57 p.m..
