PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING DECEMBER 5, 2018 PRESENT  Mayor Jill Boudreau  Council Members o Richard Brocksmith o Iris Carias o Mary Hudson o Mark Hulst o Joe Lindquist o Gary Molenaar  Police Chief Jerry Dodd  Project Development Manager Peter Donovan  Fire Chief Bryan Brice  Library Director Isaac Hoffman  City Attorney Kevin Rogerson  Finance Director Doug Volesky  Development Services Director Chris Phillips The Public Safety Committee Meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Council Member Mark Hulst. Council Member Richard Brocksmith had questions about last month’s meeting minutes, which were discussed. Last month’s minutes were approved with the two following corrections: Firehouse Subs donated $25,000 for Fire equipment. The City’s legislative agenda will also include capital requests. POLICE CHIEF JERRY – HIRING UPDATE Chief Dodd provided very brief update of hiring and personnel  Records Division is fully staffed o Casie Strand is off probation o Carrie Hoyle will complete probation in February  Nine new COPP members o Currently going through six week training period  Park Ranger Update o Fewer applicants (5) than anticipated o After discussion with SVC Parks Academy Commanders, removed one year experience requirement o Hope to get students soon after graduating from Parks Academy o Field training program will be longer and more structured o Hiring will be continual process o Park Ranger vehicle purchased from SCSO (low mileage and low cost)  Police Officer Chris Harris is doing well at the BLEA and will graduate on 01/09/19  Police Officer Cesar Palma will attend BLEA from 01/08/19 to 05/17/19 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE DECEMBER 5, 2018 PAGE 1 OF 2  Police Recruit Dakota Hinton will be sworn in on 12/12/18 and attend BLEA in March of 2019  Three Police Officer candidates are pending o Two in final stages of hiring  Internship Program to be implemented to help Outreach Coordinator with homelessness o Job description and applications set o Ready to reach out winter quarter o Looking for six to nine month commitment  MVPD currently has three vacancies plus eight officers out on sick/disability leave, and one at BLEA o 28% of the workforce is gone FIRE CHIEF BRYAN BRICE – FIRE FACILITIES BOND Chief Brice discussed and provided slides regarding cost, contingencies, review, etc. of three new/revised Fire Department buildings that result in a combined total project cost of $29,814.057.53. Council Members asked various questions about the project, which Chief Brice answered and discussions ensued. Council Member Hulst asked Fire Chief Brice and Mayor Boudreau to get as much information as possible to Council Members by next week regarding their questions and concerns about the project.
