1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Donahue called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present 5- Max Beckman-Harned, Randall Stock, Nicole Vogt, Vice Chair Elena Lopez, and
Chairperson Paul Donahue
3. MINUTES APPROVAL
Motion - M/S Stock/Beckman-Harned to approve the Library Board minutes of the
April 24, 2017 meeting.
The motion carried by the following vote:
Yes: 5- Beckman-Harned, Stock, Vogt, Vice Chair Lopez, and Chairperson Donahue
4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC - None
5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
5.1 Budget
Director Macek reported that all the library items included in the narrative budget presentation
to the City Council on April 27 are expected to be included in the public hearings in June.
Final budget adoption will be at the June 20 meeting.
6. NEW BUSINESS
6.1 Adult Services presentation by Melvyn Yabut
Melvyn Yabut, Adult and Virtual Services Manager, presented the attached information. He
gave an overview of print and virtual collections, programs, future plans, gave a demonstration
of how to sign up for summer reading, and answered questions.

6.2 Meeting Room Policy
The Board discussed the Meeting Room Policy. References to the Monarch room will need to
be deleted when that service is discontinued in July. The Library Director will bring a
proposed revision to the next meeting.
7. BOARD/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE
REPORTS
Trustee Beckman-Harned mentioned that ILL fees are still listed on the fee schedule.
Chair Donahue gave a brief report from the Mayor’s meeting.
Vice Chair Lopez mentioned the three documents she emailed to the Board: The Knight
Foundation’s “Developing Clarity: Innovating in Library Systems,” The Global Family Research
Project’s “Libraries for the 21st Century: It’s a Family Thing,” and The Chief Officers of State
Library Agencies’ presentation on library data and outcomes.
Trustee Vogt mentioned the marketing idea of giving newborn children a toy and book from
the library.
7.1 Library Director's Report
Director Macek presented the report and answered questions.
8. DONATIONS
Motion - M/S Donahue/Stock to accept the donations.
