CALL TO ORDER Chair Malik called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present 6- Commissioner Linda Batton, Vice Chair Kevin Boer, Commissioner Serge Bonte, Commissioner Arti Sharma, Commissioner Julie Solomon, and Chairperson Aila Malik 3. MINUTES APPROVAL 3.1 Minutes Approval Motion - M/S Boer/Bonte -Minutes for the September 7, 2017 meeting were approved with the following modifications: Item 5.2 - Santa Clara County's Office of LGBTQ Affairs Item 6.1 - Civility Roundtable (CRT) Topic Discussion Yes: 6- Commissioner Batton, Vice Chair Boer, Commissioner Bonte, Commissioner Sharma, Commissioner Solomon, and Chairperson Malik 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC Speaking from the floor, expressions of concern, support, and recommendations were received from: Ms. Sally Fox 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Community Roundtable (CRT) Subcommittee Update Vice Chair Boer and Commissioner Batton presented the subcommittee recommendations. M/S - Boer/Solomon - To plan a Community Roundtable (CRT) event in December 2017 on the topic of Free Speech. Yes: 6- Commissioner Batton, Vice Chair Boer, Commissioner Bonte, Commissioner Sharma, Commissioner Solomon, and Chairperson Malik City of Mountain View Page 1 Human Relations Commission Minutes October 5, 2017 5.2 LGBTQI Subcommittee Update Commissioners Solomon and Sharma provided an oral report on the status of the subcommittee's work plan progress, including updating the informant interview list and questions, and the proposed date for the LGBTQI Listening session. 5.3 FY 2017-18 Work Plan Review Assistant City Manager Ramberg and the Commission reviewed the FY 2017-18 work plan, the meeting tentative agenda calendar, and the HRC activities for the rest of the fiscal year. 6. NEW BUSINESS None. 7. COMMISSION/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE REPORTS Commissioners Batton, Bonte, Solomon, and Chair Malik attended the Celebration of Service on September 25, 2017. Commissioner Solomon attended the Council Neighborhoods Committee meeting on September 28, 2017. Commissioner Bonte will attend the Council Neighborhoods Committee meeting on October 19, 2017. Commissioner Bonte announced that Unity Day, uniting together against bullying, is October 25, 2017. Commissioner Solomon is unable to attend the November 2, 2017, HRC Commission meeting. 8. ADJOURNMENT At 8:00 p.m., Chair Malik adjourned the meeting to the Human Relations Commission meeting to be held on November 2, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the Plaza Conference Room, 500 Castro Street. CALL TO ORDER 2. ROLL CALL 3. MINUTES APPROVAL 3.1 Minutes Approval Recommendation: To approve the minutes of September 7, 2017. Attachments: Minutes.pdf Minutes for the September 7, 2017 meeting have been delivered to Commissioners and a copy posted on the City Hall bulletin board. If there are no corrections or additions, a motion is in order to approve these minutes. 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the Commission on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law prohibits the Commission from acting on non-agenda items. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Community Roundtable (CRT) Subcommittee Update Recommendation: The CRT Subcommittee will present an oral update on a topic and potential date for a November 2017 CRT event. Action may be taken on this item. 5.2 LGBTQI Subcommittee Update Recommendation: The LGBTQI Subcommittee will provide an update on the status of co-hosting a LGBTQI listening session with the County of Santa Clara in early 2018. Action may be taken on this item. 5.3 FY 2017-18 Work Plan Review Recommendation: The Commission will review the adopted work plan for FY 2017-18, the meeting tentative agenda calendar, and discuss HRC activities for the rest of the fiscal year.
