CALL TO ORDER Chair Palay called the meeting to order at 6:18 p. m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: 5- Committee Member Branyon, Committee Member Mirza, Committee Member Wise, Vice Chair Donahue, and Chair Palay 3. MINUTES APPROVAL 3.1 Approval of Minutes. The Performing Arts Committee approve the minutes of the August 15, 2018 meeting. Yes: 5- Committee Member Branyon, Committee Member Mirza, Committee Member Wise, Vice Chair Donahue, and Chair Palay 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 One-Act Play Festival Subcommittee Report. SPEAKING FROM THE FLOOR IN SUPPORT (OR IN OPPOSITION) AND/OR WITH RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCERNS: •Nicolas, Artistic Director Upstage Theater, answered questions regarding Sam's directing experience with the organization. •Barbie Koch, producer with Peninsula Youth Theatre, requested clarification on planned marketing for the festival and to add a talkback to both performances. •Ray Chan, president MV Presents, reminded students to look for designer and crew volunteers, and volunteered to be a mentor for a director if needed. •Bonnie Fought, Executive Director Upstage Theater, stated the approved directors were welcome to borrow props or costumes from the Upstage Theater inventory. MOTION M/S Palay/Mirza - To: approve and set the schedule for the One-Act Play Festival as Braden directing "A Defenseless Creature", Swati directing "The Audition", Aubrie directing "The Drowned Man", and Sam directing "The Seduction". The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5- Committee Member Branyon, Committee Member Mirza, Committee Member Wise, Vice Chair Donahue, and Chair Palay City of Mountain View Page 1 Performing Arts Committee Minutes September 13, 2018 MOTION M/S Palay/Mirza - To: combine the Subcommittees of "One-Act Play Festival Planning Committee" and "One-Act Play Festival Outreach Committee" into the "One-Act Play Festival Committee" consisting of Vice Chair Donahue and Committee Member Wise. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5- Committee Member Branyon, Committee Member Mirza, Committee Member Wise, Vice Chair Donahue, and Chair Palay 5.2 MV Presents. No action was taken 7. COMMITTEE/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE REPORTS Executive Director Whisler announced the Center was able to obtain a show sponsor for the next two Austism/Sensory Friendly performances from CARD (Center for Autism and Sensory Disorders). Executive Director Whisler announced the resignation of Operations Manager Daniel Kays. Chair Palay announced he completed the interview with KMVT at the Art and Wine Festival over the weekend. 7.1 PAC Revenue and Expense Spreadsheet. Informational Item. 8. ADJOURNMENT At 8:09 p.m., Chair Palay adjourned the meeting to the next Performing Arts Committee meeting to be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, in the Atrium Conference Room, 500 Castro Street. CALL TO ORDER 2. ROLL CALL 3. MINUTES APPROVAL 3.1 Approval of Minutes. Recommendation: The Performing Arts Committee approve the minutes of the August 15, 2018 meeting. Attachments: 08-15-18 PAC Minutes 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the Committee on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law prohibits the Committee from acting on non-agenda items. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 One-Act Play Festival Subcommittee Report. Recommendation: Background: The One-Act Play Festival Subcommittee was first formed in June 2013 and has had several successful years of productions. The Performing Arts Committee (PAC) will be working on plans for the 2019 Festival. Hear an update from the Subcommittee. 5.2 MV Presents. Recommendation: Background: With assistance and encouragement from PAC over several years, several interested parties have incorporated as the 501(c)(3) entity MV Presents, which has a goal of supporting MVCPA programs through fundraising and development of festivals. Former Committee member Raymond Chan is working with the MV Presents Liaison Subcommittee to coordinate that group's efforts with the Center. Hear an update from the Subcommittee. COMMITTEE/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE REPORTS No action will be taken on any questions raised by the Committee at this time. 7.1 PAC Revenue and Expense Spreadsheet. ADJOURNMENT The next Performing Arts Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 6:15 p.m. in the Atrium Conference Room, 500 Castro Street.
