YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE AGENDA WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2025, AT 5:30 PM MURPHY COMMUNITY CENTER HOMER AND MARIE ROOM 206 NORTH MURPHY ROAD MURPHY, TEXAS 75094 NOTICE is hereby given of a meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee of the City of Murphy, Collin County, State of Texas, to be held on February 19, 2025, at the Murphy Community Center for the purpose of considering the following items. The Youth Advisory Committee reserves the right to meet in Executive Session closed to the public at any time in the course of this meeting to discuss matters listed on the agenda, as authorized by the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter 551, including §551.071 (private consultation with the attorney for the City); §551.072 (discussing purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property); §551.074 (discussing personnel or to hear Anjana Vankayalapati complaints against personnel); and §551.087 (discussing economic development negotiations). ADJOURNMENT I certify that this is a true and correct copy of the Murphy Youth Advisory Committee Meeting Agenda and that this notice was posted on the designated bulletin board at Murphy City Hall, 206 North Murphy Road, Murphy, Texas 75094; a place convenient and readily accessible to the public at all times, and said notice was posted on February 14, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. and will remain posted continuously for 72 hours prior to the scheduled meeting Page 1 of 5 pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code. Notice of Possible Quorum: There may be a quorum of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, the Board of Adjustment, the Building and Fire Code Appeals Board, the Capital Projects Advisory Committee, the City Council, the Murphy Community Development Corporation, the Murphy Municipal Development District Board, the Park and Recreation Board and/or the Planning and Zoning Commission members who may be present at the meeting, but they will not deliberate on any city or board business. Chair, Anjana Vankayalapati called the meeting to order at 5:33 P.M. 2. ROLL CALL AND CERTIFICATION OF A QUORUM MEMBERS Committee Member Aniya Jain PRESENT: Committee Member Ishya Jain Committee Member Kennedy Butler Committee Member Andrew Dickenson Committee Member Imani Yarbough Commissioner Anjana Vankayalapati . MEMBERS ABSENT: Committee Member Aiden Tran Committee Member Akshaya Vankayalapati 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS A. The Murphy Community Center is open to the public. Items suggested for action may be placed on a future agenda, at the Council's sole discretion. No public comments. 4. PRESENTATIONS A. City Budget Overview. Mrs. Paulette Overman from the Finance Department filled in for Mr. Shahrzad Rizvi. She presented a slide presentation along with the City of Murphy budget overview video to inform the Youth Advisory Committee about the operations of the Finance Department. She explained the annual cost of running the city, the percentage of the budget allocated to each department, the sources of revenue, and upcoming city projects. She then opened the floor for questions from the committee. Miss Imani Yarbough inquired about employment with the city, the pension program, and its transferability to other cities. Members who correctly answered Miss Overman’s questions won prizes, making the meeting an engaging and interactive experience for the committee. Page 3 of 5 Agenda Item 5. A. Youth Advisory Committee January 27, 2025 5. INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION A. Consider and/or approve the minutes from the November 18, 2024, Youth Advisory Committee. COMMISSION ACTION: (Item 5. A.) Quorum Not Met Aniya Jain moved to approve minutes from the November 18, 2024. Ishya Jain seconded the motion. For: Unanimous. Absent: Aiden Tran and Akshaya Vankayalapati. The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. 6. STAFF REPORTS A. Recreation and Event updates. Kayla McFarland, Recreation Superintendent, provided updates regarding city events. The Daddy Daughter Dance is scheduled to be held at the Murphy Community Center on Saturday, February 1st, with an Under the Sea theme. Food Truck Fridays is a new event, with the first one planned for March. Hop N' Hunt, formerly known as Easter Palooza, is scheduled for April. The Sounds at Sundown Concert Series in June will begin with the Emerald City Band instead of concluding with them as in previous years. The Murphy Community Center has removed the old library and is adding gaming systems and game tables in its place. Additionally, a small fitness center is being added to the Community Center. She extended an invitation to the committee for volunteers, stating that any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 7. ADJOURNMENT With no further business, a motion was entertained by the Chair, Anjana Vankayalapati, and the Youth Advisory Committee meeting adjourned at 06:19 P.M.
