ADJOURNMENT  Forward New Richmond Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Isometric Micro Molding 240 Wisconsin Drive The Forward New Richmond Committee was called to order on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Isometric Micro Molding, with the following members present: PRESENT: Karl Skoglund, Heather McAbee, Carrie Borgstrom, Bryan Knutdson, Kent Elkin, and Liz Pizzi ABSENT: Ryan Shervey, Pete Kling, and Pete Vrieze OTHERS Ron Volkert, Bill Rubin, Sadie Vance and Beth Thompson PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL ADOPTION OF AGENDA Heather McAbee made a motion to approve the Agenda. Liz Pizzi seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. CONSENT AGENDA Karl Skoglund made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda. Heather McAbee seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS UPDATES ON BUSINESS & TECHNICAL PARK Beth Thompson, Community Development Director, presented updates regarding the Business & Technical Park with respect to City owned land, privately owned land,Tax Increment Districts (TIDs), and Rights-of-First Refusals. Also, discussed was land by the Airport and land located within the northwest quadarnt of the City. Discussion continued. OVERVIEW AND TOUR OF ISOMETRIC MICRO MOLDING Donna Bibber, CEO of Isometric Micro Molding, provided FNR members with a presentation of the plastic injection molding company and products they make. Their expertise focuses on parts with a combination of micro features, thin walls, complex geometries and/or tight tolerances. They offer Forward New Richmond Committee Meeting August 16, 2023 100% in-house capabilities, including tool building, molding, 3D printing, CT scanning and micro automated assembly. Isometric provides complete micro molding and micro automation solutions for high precision markets in medical device and drug delivery. She also provided the extensive background of the leadership team and history of her plastics engineering background. Isometric Micro Molding has been in Business for 33 years, has 115 employees, and two facilities. Donna Bibber and Wayne Shakal purchased the company in September 2021. Today, Isometric is considered the largest and fastest growing medical-focused micro molder in North America. Isometric Micro Molding is in the planning and architectural design process for a new building. The possible location for their new facility would be on the land directly south of their original facility, in which they have a right of first refusal from the City. Donna gave a guided informational tour of both of their facilities. A huge thanks to Donna and Isometric Micro Molding for their hospitality! COMMUNICATION AND MISCELLANEOUS Karl Skoglund recommended City staff send out the 2021 Housing Study, the Industrial Land Policy, and the Business & Technical Park Land Sale Policy to all members. The Building and Zoning Department is excited to welcome our new team member Erica Balcerek! Erica started on September 5th and comes to us with a wealth of experience. We are thrilled to have Erica at the City of New Richmond! If you are in City Hall, please stop by and say hello. Building / Zoning Updates – August 31, 2023: Number of Building Permits - 222 Number of New Dwelling Units - 39 Number of Inspections - 720 Residential Construction Value - $11,167,138 Commercial Construction Value - $10,850,643 Building Permit Fees - $151,793 Occupancy Update: The building inspector has given occupancy for seven single-family homes, and two twin homes for the month of August. Also in August, the inspector has given occupancy of the third Apartment building for Mill City Flats. Ribbon Cuttings: Will's Playground at Mary Park, Simply Bowls in the Paperjack Plaza, Willow Countryside Villas-1728 County Road A- 55+Luxury Leasing Community, and renaming of the New Richmond Post Office in honor of two half brothers from New Richmond who lost their lives in WWII - all happened in August! Business Nominations: City staff submitted two local businesses nominations, for business excellence, for Wisconsin’s minority, woman, and service-disabled veteran business owned awards for the Marketplace 2023 through Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA). Award Categories: CEO of the Year: Donna Bibber, CEO of Isometric Micro Molding Outstanding Business of the Year: Bizzy Bean Coffee To Go Business Broadcast Email: Staff sent an email to our local businesses providing some helpful and resourceful information ranging from T-Mobile Grant opportunity, Small Business Clinics, a webinar hosted by Bakke Norman attorneys, a new market research and business intelligence program called Size Up Wisconsin, the 20th Annual Women's Business Conference, the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contract Program, andEntrepreneurial Training Program through Small Business Development Center at the University of River Falls. Keep It Beautiful (KIB) and Weed Notices: Staff received and responded to 5 Keep It Beautiful reports for "Maintenance of Property" ordinance regarding miscellaneous items being stored in front yards, old furniture at the curb for weeks, and broken signage for privately owned leasing firm in the month of August. Also, staff sent out 38 weed notifications to properties not mowing and maintaining the lawn maintenance at their residence. As summer comes to a close, KIB starts to slow down a bit. St. Croix EDC: At the end of September, Bill Rubin, Executive Director for St. Croix County EDC, will be retiring. Bill has served the County EDC in this position since 1996, a total of 27.5 years providing his professionalism and leadership. We wish him well in this next chapter of life. As you may be aware, long time Executive Director, Bill Rubin, has decided to retire effective the end of September and in doing so the Board of Direrctors for St. Croix County EDC is looking for input on moving forward. With that said, they have a survery available for members to complete and would like additional feedback at the meeting. The survey can be found here. Attached you will find a job description for the Executive Director position, in rough draft form. Several modifications will be made in the near future.
