CITY OF NEWPORT, KY SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS July 30, 2024 MINUTES CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL A special meeting was called to order by Mayor Thomas L. Guidugli Jr. on July 30, 2024, at 5:00 op p.m. in the Multipurpose room of the Newport Municipal Building, 998 Monmouth Street. In Attendance: y Commissioner Radwanski, Commissioner Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Vice Mayor Fennell, Mayor Guidugli Jr., City Manager Thomas Fromme, Police Chief Christopher Fangman, Fire Chief Frank Peluso, and City Clerk Tiffany Myers. R-2024-55 lC AN ORDER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND UP TO $62,500 FOR NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE PURPLE PEOPLE BRIDGE. ca A motion by Commissioner Smith-Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Radwanski, to approve Order R-2024-55 as read. Yes Yes Yes Comments: An  City Manager Fromme briefly explained how the city acquired the Purple People Bridge and turned it into a pedestrian bridge. Since 2005, the bridge was estimated to have 200,000 pedestrian users for the year. We now have approximately one million pedestrian users, and with the bike transportation plan we are looking at, this bridge needs significant repairs. Reopening the bridge will cost $125,000.00, and we estimate an additional $125,000.00 for more permanent repairs. The total cost ot to fully repair the bridge is roughly $250,000.00. The city has been lucky to have a partner willing to help with half the cost of reopening this bridge, which is why the order is for $62,500.00.  Christine Russell, from the Northern Kentucky Port Authority and Vice President of BE NKY Growth N Partnership, is excited to be part of this project and can’t wait to unleash this bridge's full potential for Newport and Cincinnati. EXECUTIVE SESSION: A motion by Commissioner Rechtin, seconded by Vice Mayor Fennell, to go into Executive Session pursuant to KRS 61.810 (F): Discussions or hearings that might lead to the appointment, discipline, or dismissal of an employee, member, or student without restricting that employee’s, member’s, or student’s right to a public hearing if requested.
