January 21, 2025 Minutes
Call to Order:
Mayor Guidugli Jr. called a special meeting to order on January 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the
Multipurpose Room of the Newport Municipal Building at 998 Monmouth Street. The meeting
was opened with a silent invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance.
In attendance were:
Commissioner Radwanski, Vice Mayor Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Commissioner
Sutherland, Mayor Guidugli Jr., City Manager John Hayden, Assistant City Manager Brian
Steffen, City Attorney Dan Braun, Police Chief Christopher Fangman, and City Clerk Tiffany
Myers.

DEPARTMENT HEAD COMMENTS
City Attorney Dan Braun offered his condolences for the passing of the prior City Attorney Mike
Schulkens.
CITY MANAGER COMMENTS
Habitat for Humanity will be at the February 3 Caucus Meeting.
Will make an announcement later for a Special Meeting to discuss Monmouth Street and the
options of having this a two-way street.
The Board Retreat (Special Meeting) will be held on February 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. It will be
open to the public, but comments will be prohibited.
Offered condolences to Mike Schulken’s family.
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Sutherland:
Ask the public for patience with him as he is a new commissioner.
Attended a KLC training for City Officials.
Commissioner Rechtin:
Have received a lot of public input on having the agenda review in front of the agenda. It
helps explain items that are being considered and are easy to understand.
Cookie Jar Bakery has been open for 98 years this month. Make sure you support our small
businesses.
Implored the public to take advantage of Shelters for the cold weather we are experiencing.
Offered condolences to Mike Schulken’s family.
Commissioner Radwanski:
Commended Commissioner Sutherland on taking training courses.
Happy we passed the unanimous order for housing within the city limits.
Vice Mayor Smith-Morrow:
It is nice to see that we have volunteers who want to keep serving on the city boards.
Congratulated the police on obtaining the Homeland Security Grant.
Happy that we approved the CDBG grants tonight to continue our commitment to affordable
housing.
Mayor Guidugli:
Offered condolences to the Schulken’s family.
Encouraged those who need shelter in this cold weather to take advantage of the shelters in
the city.
Small businesses, especially restaurants, have a hard time in January and February with
maintaining business. To help bring people into restaurants in NKY, a multi-organizational
initiative to help businesses in the winter months is rolling out #DineNKY. This program will
encourage people to patronize their favorite restaurants on Tuesdays and be eligible for a $
50.00 gift card to a local restaurant in NKY and be eligible for a grand prize of $300 at the end

of this program.

A motion by Commissioner Radwanski, seconded by Commissioner Rechtin, to adjourn the
meeting. Motion carried—so ordered. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:07 p.m.
