City of Norwich Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund Committee Minutes Meeting 111 December 8, 2008 The Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund Committee held its 111th meeting on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. in room 209, City Hall, Norwich, Connecticut. 1. Roll Call Members present were: Richard Benoit, Taftville Karen Mankowski, Occum Joshua Pothier, Assistant Comptroller Thomas Quinley, Yantic Red McKeon, Occum/Past Chairman Joseph Kochanski, Laurel Hill Brian Curtin, City Treasurer Thomas Dawkins, Personnel Manager Frank Davis, Citizen Appointee Members absent were: Joseph Ruffo, Comptroller Donald Leary, East Great Plain Richard Benoit called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. 2. Minutes: Meeting minutes from November 3, 2008, Special Meeting were reviewed and Thomas Dawkins made a motion to accept the minutes as presented, seconded by Karen Mankowski. Approved. 3. Reports: Treasurer Report: None (The Treasurer’s Reports are now being report quarterly instead of monthly.) Actuarial Report: Josh Pothier presented Hooker & Holcombe’s Actuarial Valuation Report dated June 6, 2008 to the Committee. Mr. Pothier provided an overview of the confidential report to the Committee members. The Relief Fund has been funded by the City for the amount of $247,323.00 for the 2008-9 fiscal year. Thomas Quinley made a motion to accept the presented report dated June 6, 2008, seconded by Joseph Kochanski. Accepted. 4. Communications: a. The City of Norwich’s Policy Regarding Injured/Disabled Volunteer Firefighters was discussed by the Committee. Thomas Quinley made a motion that the draft with the incorporated comments be accepted by the Committee and moved along to Corporation Council, Attorney Michael Driscoll, for his review and comment prior to final official  acceptance by the Relief Fund Committee. Seconded by Thomas Dawkins, accepted unanimously. 5. Old Business: None. 6. New Business: a. The Committee established the 2009 meeting dates. The meetings will be held on the second Monday of the months indicated for the scheduled regular meetings. The dates are as follows: January 12, 2009 February 9, 2009 May 11, 2009 September 14, 2009 December 14, 2009 The next meeting is scheduled for January 12, 2009.
