Beach Nourishment Committee Meeting

Minutes Beach Nourishment Committee Meeting July 18, 2023 Meeting called to order by Sandy Boyer 6:36P.M. at OD Fire House Attendees: Sandy Boyer, John Lawicki, Peter Mavrelis, Paul Panther, Al Halline, Michelle Bonneau The minutes of the June 20th meeting were approved. Reports: Sandy: 1. Permitting A conference call is planned for July 21 to discuss permitting with the Army Corps of Engineers. Sandy and Scott will be on the call. A prehearing conference is planned for July 26 in Indianapolis to discuss objections for the permitting by the Save The Dunes organization. Our Lawyer will represent OD. Sandy will discuss with Jeremy Ogden about obtaining a permit from Ogden Dunes to do the revetment work for phase 3 of the project. 2. Final survey GZA will do a final survey of the beach tomorrow July 19 on which to base final drawings and cost estimates for the revetment. 3. Mitigation Next meeting from the Army Corps of Engineers on this topic will be October 10. 4. Sand Nourishment New sand hopefully will be placed this year by the Army Corps of Engineers. 5. Safety equipment Lifesaving equipment has been placed in five locations along the beach Michelle and John: 1. Snow fencing An ordinance will be proposed to standardize the placement of snow fencing along the beach to trap sand. John and Bruce will handle this issue. 2. Dune grass The importance of avoiding trampling the already planted dune grass was discussed. Sandy will talk with Eric from the fire department about this issue. Paul: 1. ADA access Paul had contacted a donor who will fund the cost of a moveable ramp for wheelchair access to the beach. A motion was made and passed for him to proceed to the town council to seek approval. Peter: 1. Master Plan Vision Statement Language will be added to the statement regarding having an ADA accessible way to the beach. Respectfully submitted. Peter Mavrelis
