CALL TO ORDER Chair Hicks called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 8 - Chair Stacy Hicks, Vice Chair Timothy Grisham, Commissioner Frederick Dobler, Commissioner Diana Fairbanks, Commissioner Marygrace Goddu, Commissioner Kathy Murray, Commissioner Katherine Williams and Commissioner Autumn Yoke 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 18-0782 Approval of August 9, 2018 Arts Commission Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Sandra Wallace introduced herself to the Arts Commission. She loves Olympia and is looking for a way to get more involved with the arts community. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming arts events. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 7. REPORTS 18-0783 Policy & Program Recommendation Reports 1.1 Municipal Art Plan to City Council - No report. 1.2 Apply for Creative District Designation - No report. 1.3 Commission Retreat/Work Session - Commissioners finalized details of the October City of Olympia Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes September 13, 2018 retreat. 1.4 ArCH - No report. 1.5 Proposal for Arts Organizations Granting Program - Commissioners agreed to review applications at their November 8 meeting. 1.6 Support the Creative Sector - No report. The report was received. 18-0784 Arts Program Support Reports 2.1 Arts Walk 56 & 57 - Ms. Nava shared the fall 2018 Arts Walk map and information on the new event shuttle. She also requested recommendations for jurors for the upcoming cover competition, which were provided by the Commission. 2.2 Music Out Loud - Commissioner Dobler provided a recap to the August performances. Commissioners discussed the inaugural performance series as a whole and made the following recommendations for the future: 1) Request the ODA provide the Arts Commission names of selected performers well in advance for promotion assistance 2) Add signage noting presenters (ODA and OAC) and inviting performers to use the spaces as future busking locations 3) Develop a City website with information about the mosaics and each summer's lineup of musicians. 2.3 Public Art Assessment - No report. 2.4 Arts & Heritage Day at the Capitol - Date has been set for February 6, 2019. 2.5 Traffic Box Mural Wrap Public Art Project - Ms. Nava reported the new wraps are almost completed and opportunity for wraps in 2019 will be opened October 1. Noting the downtown boxes show the most wear, staff recommended the most damaged wraps be replaced and new boxes added to bring the number to 10. Commissioners agreed. 2.6 Percival Plinth Project - There was discussion of online voting, but no resolution. Ms. Nava will continue to do research on digital platforms. 2.7 Poet Laureate - Ms. Johnson provided a recap to the workshop for interested applicants. 2.8 Implementation of Temporary Display of Art at City Hall & Programming - Ms. Johnson reported the solicitation received only two responses. Commissioners resolved to cancel the upcoming jury and review the Call for Exhibitions again for edit and update. 2.9 Olympia Art Crossings - Commissioners agreed on the schedule provided by staff. 2.10 Public Art Retrospective - No report.
