1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Burlingame called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.

Present: 7 - Chair Jim Burlingame, Vice Chair Kathryn Dorgan, Commissioner
Joe Batt, Commissioner Rose Clifthorne, Commissioner Jace Hoag,
Commissioner Kathy Murray and Commissioner Hathor Vergotis
Absent: 1 - Commissioner Christie Tran
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was approved.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
23-0224 Approval of February 7, 2023 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes

The minutes were approved.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming art events. Ms. Johnson
asked for a Commissioner to sit on the selection panel for the Music Out Loud Project
with the Olympia Downtown Alliance; Vice Chair Dorgan volunteered. She also asked for
a Commissioner to sit on the Art Intervention jury, administered by Arts Program
Specialist Angel Nava; Commissioner Hoag volunteered. Finally Ms. Johnson proposed
cancelling the April 13, 2023 Arts Commission meeting so Commissioners could attend
a workshop at the Armory regarding organizational partners. Commissioners agreed to
cancel the April meeting, and move their spring retreat from May to June, 2023.

6. BUSINESS ITEMS
23-0230 Artist in Residence Recommendation
Ms. Johnson and Vice Chair Dorgan shared their experience with the jury selection and
interviews for the Artist in Residence Program with Drexel House. They noted that among
three very experienced candidates, Bobby Williams was able to best articulate how he
would set the framework for the drumming group to continue past the residency, to
become part of the culture at Drexel House.
Commissioner Batt moved, seconded by Commissioner Clifthorne, to forward
the jury's recommendation of Bobby Williams to City Council for
consideration and action. The motion passed unanimously.
23-0228 Recommended Designs for 10 Traffic Box Wraps

Ms. Johnson shared the top ten images receiving the most votes in the Traffic Box Wrap
public vote held February 1-28.
Commissioner Hoag moved, seconded by Commissioner Batt, to forward the
community's recommendation to City Council for consideration and action.
The motion passed unanimously.
23-0229 Gift of Art Proposal
Attachments: Arc of Aging Proposal
Commissioners discussed the Arc of Aging Proposal and directed staff to request from
the applicant a proposal of how the original mural will be scaled to fit the new location.
Commissioners were also interested to know community response to the proposal
among facility users most connected to that area of the building.
Commisioner Hoag moved, seconded by Commissioner Batt, to direct staff to
gather this additional information for Commission review at a future meeting.
The motion passed unanimously.
7. REPORTS
Ms. Johnson reported the Call for Poet Laureate was open and encouraged
Commissioners to get the word out. She provided an update on the Uncaged Art
proposal as well as a mock-up of some potential art loans to the new Thurston County
office building.
