1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Burlingame called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

The agenda was approved.

23-0870 Approval of September 14, 2023 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.

Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming arts events.

23-0871 Meet and Greet with Olympia Poet Laureate Kathleen Byrd
Olympia Poet Laureate Kathleen Byrd introduced herself and noted one of her interests

during her tenure is to bridge connections between elders and youth, specifically around
climate change. She shared information about her upcoming reading series and writing
workshops and read several of her own poems to the group. Commissioners offered
congratulations and warm wishes for her term.
The discussion was completed.
23-0876 Asset Mapping
Commissioners continued the discussion of asset mapping begun at the September
meeting and offered concepts and ideas to the planning group of Chair Burlingame and
Commissioner Schreiber. That group will continue to refine the scope and develop an
action plan to bring to the Commission at a future meeting.
The discussion was completed.
23-0878 OAC Leadership Positions for 2024
Chair Burlingame introduced the topic of new officers. Ms. Johnson shared various ways
Commissioners had gone about the task previously. The group determined a nominating
committee of Commissioners Batt and Clifthorne would check in with several
Commissioners who had indicated interest in a leadership role and would present a slate
of officers at the November meeting.
The discussion was completed.
7. REPORTS
Ms.Johnson reported the Grass Lake Nature Park Public Art Project and the Percival
Plinth Project Calls for Art had both launched; Arts Walk took place the previous
weekend; and Commissioners would receive an Armory update at the November
meeting.
