25-0091 Olympia Fire Department Update
Fire Chief Matt Morris shared an overview of strategic planning efforts at the Fire
Department. He noted he conducted an employee survey and environmental scan of the
Department and shared key takeaways; impacts of the Regional Fire Authority process;
organizational structure; morale and culture.
Chief Morris shared information regarding the current staffing levels, organizational
structure, new services, capital needs and financial challenges. He outlined the Fire
Department's updated guiding principles and reviewed the Department's 2025 strategic
goal and work plan.
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions.
The discussion was completed.
2.B 25-0101 Olympia 2045 - Natural Environment Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan
Update
Interim Community Planning and Economic Development Director Tim Smith shared an
overview of the Olympia 2045 Comprehensive Plan update process.
Environmental Habitat Planner Kym Foley shared an overview of the Natural Environment
Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan, the Chapter update process, key themes and edits.
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions.
The study session was completed.

2.C 25-0089 Olympia 2045 - Economy Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan Update
Principal Planner Joyce Phillips shared an overview of the Economy Chapter of the
Comprehensive Plan, the Chapter update process, key themes and edits.
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions. The Chapter will go to the Finance
Committee to review suggested changes before coming back to the City Council for
adoption.
The study session was completed.
