CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Chair Villegas Bremer attended via phone so Commissioner Soule was Acting Chair for the meeting. Present: 2 - Chair Linda Villegas Bremer and Commissioner Oscar Soule Excused: 1 - Commissioner Reiko Callner OTHERS PRESENT Senior Human Resources Analyst Nicole Camus Interim Deputy Fire Chief Michael Buchanan Police Hiring and Training Sergeant Jason Winner 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. PUBLIC COMMENT - NONE 4. ANNOUNCEMENTS - NONE 5. BUSINESS ITEMS 5.A 22-0978 Approval of Entry Level Police Officer Register Staff Camus explained ten candidates were invited to the phase 1 suitability assessment. Six candidates were invited to oral interview, six participated and five successfully passed the oral interview. The interview panel consisted of OPD Sergeant Aaron Ficek, OPD Detective Nicole Glenn and Community Member John Scott . Chair Villegas Bremer moved, seconded by Commissioner Soule, to approve the certification of the Entry Level Police Officer Register effective October 18, 2022. The motion carried by the following vote: City of Olympia Page 1 Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes October 18, 2022 Aye: 2 - Chair Villegas Bremer and Commissioner Soule Excused: 1 - Commissioner Callner 5.B 22-0979 Approval of Lateral Police Officer Register Staff Camus explained two candidates were invited to the phase 1 suitability assessment. Two participated in the phase 1 suitability assessment and passed. Two candidates were invited to oral interviews, participated and successfully passed the oral interviews. Both candidates are white/Caucasian females. The interview panel consisted of OPD Detective Nicole Glenn, OPD Sergeant Aaron Ficek, and Community Member John Scott. Chair Villegas Bremer moved, seconded by Commissioner Soule, to approve the certification of the Lateral Police Officer Register effective October 18, 2022. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 2 - Chair Villegas Bremer and Commissioner Soule Excused: 1 - Commissioner Callner 5.C 22-0980 Approval of Entry Level Firefighter Register Staff Camus explained initial eligibility lists were established with candidates who passed the written exam administered by Public Safety Testing. These 370 candidates were invited to a speed interview. Of those 370, 142 candidates participated, and 138 passed. Twenty were invited to interview; of those twenty, 10 participated and 7 passed. The interview panel consisted of OFD Battalion Chief Mark Schreck, OFD FF Dustin Howard, OFD Firefighter Jon Jackson, OFD FF/PM Lieutenant Kehlen Dorsey, and Pam Thompson, Fire Fleet Coordinator. Chair Villegas Bremer moved, seconded by Commissioner Soule, to approve the certification of the Entry Level Firefighter Register effective October 18, 2022. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 2 - Chair Villegas Bremer and Commissioner Soule Excused: 1 - Commissioner Callner 6. REPORTS - NONE 7. OTHER TOPICS - None 8.
