CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 12:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Chair Holly Davies, Commissioner Garner Miller, Commissioner Sheila Swalling and Commissioner Nicholas Vann Excused: 1 - Vice Chair Dwayne Harkness 2. BUSINESS ITEMS 2.A 16-1010 Olympia Heritage Register Preliminary Application Review: Christiensen Radio Shop/Avalon Annex - 108 Franklin St NE Following a visual inspection and discussion of the building's features with the applicant, the Heritage Review Committee voted unanimously to recommend the Register application for final review by the Heritage Commission as the property meets the condition requirement and possesses integrity of: - location, - setting, - materials, & - workmanship. Discussion included the notable retention of the original design and materials, including the canting of the entrance, the awning hardware, and the fenestration (doors and windows on front and side). The only noted change is the addition of the characterful tiling on the bulkheads and entrance floors, which was described as compatible with the building's character. The recommendation was approved. 2.A 16-1011 Olympia Heritage Register Preliminary Application Review: Avalon Building - 302-304 4th Ave E Following a visual inspection and discussion of the building's features with the applicant, the Heritage Review Committee voted unanimously to recommend the Register application for final review by the Heritage Commission as the property meets the condition requirement and possesses integrity of: City of Olympia Page 1 Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes September 12, 2016 - location, - setting, & - materials. Discussion included a comment from Commissioner Vann that historical storefronts are commonly replaced and that their alteration should not automatically disqualify a building from consideration, the significant retention of most clerestory windows, stucco surface treatment, and one complete storefront on Franklin, and the historic-period alteration of the original storefronts along 4th whose profile has been retained (with submitted photographic evidence indicating that this was during the Sherwin Williams era.
