CALL TO ORDER Chair Davies called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 9 - Chair Holly Davies, Commissioner Audrey Henley, Commissioner Kenneth House, Commissioner Andrea Pareigis, Commissioner Susan Rohrer, Commissioner Stephen Scott, Commissioner Gary Stedman, Commissioner Sheila Swalling and Commissioner Sharon Lumbantobing Excused: 2 - Commissioner Jessica Bieber and Commissioner Garner Miller 1.B OTHERS PRESENT Community Planning and Development Staff: Historic Preservation Officer Marygrace Goddu 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. BUSINESS ITEMS 3.A 21-0527 Heritage Month Celebration 2021 Heritage Awards were presented to four recipients who each used very different skills and methods of sharing local and regional heritage and history: Shane Anderson, Bryan Willis, Thurston County Historic Commission and Alicia Elliott. OTHER TOPICS Ms. Goddu read a statement from Mayor Selby who was unexpectedly unable to attend. The Mayor congratulated the awardees and thanked them for their work in the community and shared excitement over the transfer of the historic Armory Building to the City of Olympia. Commissioner Rohrer highlighted current heritage activities in the community and acknowledged the Heritage Commission partners: The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and their work on the National Maritime Heritage Area; the Olympia Historical Society-Bigelow House Museum, and their new Many Voices resource; and the Olympia Arts & Heritage Alliance, and their “It’s the Water” installation in the Old Firehall. She encouraged citizens to take advantage of the many heritage walking tours available on the City website and learn about where we live. Commissioner Henley shared the Facebook and Instagram accounts for “Historic Olympia” and urged people to engage, send in questions and share information about local history. She shared information about each of the awardees ongoing work or events. 5. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m. City of Olympia Page 2
