CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 8- Chair Robert L (Rob) Ahlschwede, Vice Chair Jim Nieland, Committee Member Barbara Benson, Committee Member Robert Dengel, Committee Member Joel Hansen, Committee Member Gerry Hodge, Committee Member Dave Hughes, and Committee Member Brian Tomlinson Absent: 2- Committee Member Jesse Dwyer, and Committee Member Noah C McCord 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 13-0359 Approval of April 11, 2013 PRAC Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Mr. James Reddick reminded Committee members to turn in raffle ticket sales for the PARC foundation raffle. He reported he was working with Tenino and Thurston County to schedule the next Regional Park Board meeting. He stated he believes in multiple uses at the Artesian Park and it needs to have more active facilities like basketball. The PARC foundation was approached to receive donation of a piece of property on Harrison Avenue. The Foundation cannot accept but suggested the property be donated to a non-profit organization. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Committee Members Hodge and Hansen reported on the recent community meeting that was held regarding the Ward Lake water quality. Staff from Thurston County and City of City of Olympia Page 1 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes May 2, 2013 Committee Olympia reviewed the last 18 years of water quality data and described testing that was done to check for contamination. Associate Planner Jonathon Turlove indicated The Evergreen State College has not authorized use of their campus for an interim dog park. Staff has contacted the owners of all four possible sites and all property owners have declined the interim dog park use. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 2013 Park Evaluations Committee Member Hodge opened with a discussion on whether the Committee wanted to continue the park evaluation effort this year and whether the information collected was valuable to park staff. Mr. Turlove indicated staff values information collected from the evaluations, as it indicates who uses the park, what minor or major repairs are needed, and gives Committee members the opportunity to interact with the public. The Committee agreed to continue park evaluations for 2013. Evaluation packets will be handed out at the June meeting. In October, each Commitee member will report back to the Committee with evaluation results. 2013 Work Plan Mr. Turlove gave an update on each work plan item. Leads and subcommittee members were assigned as needed. 7. REPORTS North Capitol Campus Heritage Park Development Association Nothing to report as the Association is waiting for funding from the State to become available. Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee Nothing to report. Planning Commission Liasion has not been appointed yet. PARC Foundation of Thurston County The Jocelyn Endowment has a $10,000 grant available for a classical choral project. 8. OTHER TOPICS - None 9.
