The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

3.A 22-0215 Approval of January 20, 2022, Parks and Recreation Advisory
Committee Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.

6.A 22-0262 Public Hearing for Proposed Renaming of Priest Point Park to Squaxin
Park
Parks Planning and Maintenance Director Sylvana Niehuser provided the presentation.
Charlene Krise provided the perspective comments of the Squaxin Tribe regarding the
proposed name change.
Chair Ruth opened the public hearing at 6:10 p.m. The following people spoke: Jim

Rasmussen, Tyra Zeigler, Carol Kautzmann, Regon Unsoeld, and Edwin Oscar Jr.
Gutierrez. Chair Ruth closed the public hearing at 7:05 p.m.
Vice Chair Milliern moved, seconded by Committee member Barnes, to
forward a recommendation in support of renaming the Park to City Council
for consideration. The motion passed unanimously.
6.B 22-0264 OPARD Equity in Hiring Practices
Parks Operations and Maintenance Manager Charles Rambo gave the presentation. Ms.
Niehuser provided comments. Kim Murillo asked about posting on bulletin boards.
Parks and Recreations Director Paul Simmons and City Manager Jay Burney provided
an update on the Olympia School District co-location on the Yelm Highway Parcel. They
thanked PRAC for their efforts.
The discussion was completed.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
During this portion of the meeting, citizens may address the Advisory Committee or Commission
regarding items related to City business, including items on the Agenda. In order for the Committee or
Commission to maintain impartiality and the appearance of fairness in upcoming matters and to comply
with the Public Disclosure Law for political campaigns, speakers will not be permitted to make public
comments before the Committee or Commission in these two areas: (1) on agenda items for which the
Committee or Commission either held a Public Hearing in the last 45 days, or will hold a Public Hearing
within 45 days, or (2) where the speaker promotes or opposes a candidate for public office or a ballot
measure. Individual comments are limited to two (2) minutes or less.
REMOTE MEETING PUBLIC COMMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
Live public comment will be taken during the meeting but advance registration is required. The link to
register is at the top of the agenda. You will be given the choice to comment during the registration
process. After you complete the registration form, you will receive a link by email to log onto or call into
Zoom for use at the meeting date and time. If you plan on calling into the meeting, you will need to
provide your phone number at registration so you can be recognized during the meeting. Once connected
to the meeting you will be auto-muted. At the start of the public comment period, the Chair will call
participants by name to speak in the order they signed up. When it is your turn to speak, your
microphone will be
unmuted.
