RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday Dec. 8, 2025
Village Clerk’s Office
100 W. Taft Street
6:00 P.M.
Called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairperson Smith. Roll call: Smith, Deichl, Petruska-present
Also present: Stephanie Butler, Ryan Krohn Superintendent from the school district and Tim Gorsegner.
New Business
1. Discussion/possible action on filling the Recreation Director position. Stephanie Butler said she
would stay until we can fill this position but no later than March, she will not do another baseball
season. She will stay and help the new person get acclimated without pay if needed. She said there
needs to be a conversation with public works and the Park and Rec committee as far as what job
duties are expected because she has been expected to do a lot extra work that was not part of her job
duties when she was hired and not part of her job description. This alone has taken up many hours
and when she is limited to less than 20 hours a week it is hard to stay under that amount. The next
person would need more than 20 hrs. week if the board expects the rec director to do these extra
things. Also, she is required to attend a lot more meetings, the position takes much more time than it
used to. She will update her list of when things start and what needs to be done.
Ryan Krohn spoke and explained the things that the school currently offers such as the weight
room, the gym is open on Saturdays, a flight simulator, men’s basketball to mention a few. Joel
Tortomosi is programs administrator, summer school and community Ed. for the school. If the
programs grew, they might need to look at who could do it. Petruska said that these types of things
have been funded under Fund 80 through the state. Ryan said that he would have to take this idea of
possibly taking over the entire Rec programs and possibly working with the Eagle Rec. dept. as well
to the school board. Other school districts are doing this as well, Luck, Burlington, and Hudson. He
wants the facilities to be used by the community. The Eagle Rec. director works 10-15 hrs. a week.
Ryan is happy to keep exploring options and will talk with the school board. The next school board
meeting is Jan. 13th, Tammie Smith will touch base with Ryan after that.
Petruska’s thoughts – She isn’t positive about totally getting rid of our Rec. Dept. maybe after they
learn more from the school district. Clerk Mueller said that maybe we could talk with Eagle and
there could be 1 full-time director for both Eagle and Palmyra. Tammie Smith will contact Eagle
about this. Petruska said that both public works and the Rec. Dept were given permission to have a
Facebook page to help get information out to residents but neither has done this. Petruska and
Diechl will look at the job description for any updates. Tammie will report to the board on Jan. 5th
and then at the second meeting in Jan. they should have more information from the school to give to
the board.
Petruska/Diechl motion to adjourn at 7:05 pm. All ayes-motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Laurie Mueller,
Village Clerk/Treasurer
