MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
MAYOR’S YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2022, IN THE PINETOP-LAKESIDE
TOWN HALL LOCATED AT 325 W. WHITE MOUNTAIN BLVD.,
LAKESIDE, AZ 85929
A. Call to Order: Chairman Rigg called the meeting to order at 7:02 a.m.
Pledge of Allegiance: Chairman Rigg led the Pledge of Allegiance.

B. Minutes:
B.1 Member J. Grzelak moved to approve the following minutes:
Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee Regular Meeting August 11, 2022.
The motion was seconded by Member Smithson and was carried with an 8-0
voice vote.
C. Old Business:
C.1 Discussion Regarding Arizona League of Cities & Towns Annual
Conference, August 31st.
Member Smithson, Member Dimaliwat, and Malaina Spillman informed the
committee about the presenters at the conference. Member Smithson told the committee
the first speaker Zion was very good, talked about mental health and strategies to for
Youth to implement in their schools. Members Smithson, Dimaliwat and Stroup agreed
the speaker was not as engaging. Malaina talked about the last speaker Adam who was
also good and engaging. The topic was social media and communication with social
media. Mrs. Spillman told the committee that the basis was discussing how social media
plays a role in mental health for our youth. Malaina encouraged the committee to
considered our youth’s mental health and what the committee can do to assist in
spreading awareness and creating safe places for youth in our community.
D. New Business
D.1 Review and Discussion for Town Council Meeting in October.
Malaina reviewed with the committee the October Council Meeting dates of
October 6, 2022 and October 20, 2022. Keith Johnson and Mayor Irwin confirmed that the
October 20, 2022 meeting or the first meeting in November would be best. The date will be
discussed, and training will be done at the next meeting.
E. Public Comments:
None offered.
F. Adjournment:
There being no further business at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 a.m.
