Council Minutes April 16, 2015 – 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Councilor Churchwell led the invocation. Councilor Roberts led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Roll Call: Marie Turner, City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Councilor Tanner Councilor Cochran Councilor Roberts Councilor Churchwell Councilor McCain Absent: Mayor Sanders Mayor Pro-Tem Tanner is presiding over tonight’s meeting as Mayor Sanders is performing in the PVHS Spring Musical. Minutes: Councilor Roberts made a motion to waive the reading of the April 2, 2015, minutes. Councilor Cochran duly seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor McCain made a motion to accept the minutes as written of the April 2, 2015, meeting. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner called for any discussion. Committee Chair Comments: Finance: Councilor McCain made a motion to approve payment of the bills in the amount of $195,137.78; a copy of the bills schedule is attached. Councilor Cochran duly seconded the motion. Mayor Pro-Tem Tanner called for any discussion. Councilor McCain stated the majority of the total is for the Park $141,000.00; and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve $20,000.00. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner called for any further discussion. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner announced the Finance Committee will be meeting, April 30, 2015, at 6:30, at City Hall, to discuss the 2015-2016 Budget. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner mentioned this meeting is open to the public. Annexations: Councilor Churchwell offered an ordinance annexing certain territory into the corporate limits of the City of Pinson, Alabama, located at 3933 Mars Avenue; 313 St. John Road & 224 Saturn Lane. Councilor Cochran duly seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner called for unanimous consent to consider: Mayor Pro Tem Tanner-yes; Councilor Cochran-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes, Councilor McCain-yes. Public Safety: Councilor Cochran mentioned the garbage service with Advanced Disposal has been going on for a couple of weeks now, we have had a few issues with pick up or carts that we are trying to resolve. Councilor Cochran added if anyone has not received their carts, please call City Hall. Councilor Roberts stated it has been well received and suggested that the recycle and yard debris dates be put on our sign. Enhancements: Councilor McCain stated the Bicentennial Celebration was well attended with over 5,000 people in attendance. Councilor McCain offered a motion approving the movies to be shown at Movies in the Park this year, May 1st-Big Hero 6; May 8th-How To Train Your Dragon 2; May 15th Lego Movie. Councilor Cochran duly seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner called for any discussion. Councilor Roberts suggested that maybe we could do these movies in May at the Rock School and some later at the Park. Councilor Cochran stated we could suggest that, maybe a July 4th Celebration. Old Business: Councilor Churchwell offered a motion to approve the purchase and installation of 2 sets of doors at PHCC, at a cost of $6,498.00. Councilor Cochran duly seconded the motion. New Business: Councilor Cochran mentioned the Darter Fest will be held at Railroad Park 11a.m.-4p.m. Saturday, this will benefit Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Councilor Cochran mentioned PVHS will host the Baseball Playoffs this weekend. Mayor Pro Tem Tanner mentioned the Softball Team will play Clay in the Area Championship. Public Comment: None.
