Council Minutes October 19, 2017 – 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Mayor Sanders led the invocation. Councilor Tanner led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Roll Call: Marie Turner, City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Mayor Sanders Councilor Galamore Councilor Roberts Councilor Churchwell Councilor McCain Absent: Councilor Tanner Minutes: Councilor Roberts offered a motion to waive the reading of the September 14, 2017, minutes. Councilor Galamore duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor Churchwell made a motion to accept the minutes as written of the September 14, 2017, meeting. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders" Let the record reflect both motions passed unanimously." Committee Chair Comments: Finance: Councilor Galamore made a motion to approve payment of the bills in the amount of $126,170.71 a copy of the bills schedule is attached. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders "Let the record reflect the motion passed unanimously." Enhancements: Mayor Sanders reported on the Alabama Butterbean Festival stating that it was a great day with few incidents. Councilor McCain announced the Veterans Day Luncheon will be held November 10, 2017 at the Rock School Center beginning at 11:30, with the Kool Kats Band entertaining. Mayor’s Report: Mayor Sanders spoke to the drawings/plans as presented for the Eagle Scout Project regarding Red Hill Cemetery Kiosk. Mayor Sanders received no objection from council regarding the plans and will advise the Eagle Scout to proceed. Mayor Sanders offered a first reading on a Garbage Contract. Councilor Roberts offered a motion to accept a quote from Eastern Tree Service in the amount of $2,500.00 for tree removal in the right of way at Silver Lake Road. Councilor Galamore duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor McCain offered a motion to accept a quote from Eastern Tree Service in the amount of $7,500.00 for demolition of 4239 Main Street. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Old Business: Councilor McCain offered a motion to approve a quote from D & J Floor Covering for flooring at the Community Center in the amount of $6,549.00. Councilor Galamore duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders call for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Councilor McCain offered a motion to approve a quote from Pike’s Plumbing for plumbing repair at the Community Center in the amount of $1,300.00. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders call for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. New Business: Councilor McCain offered a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract for the purchase of improved property located at 4182 Powell Avenue, in the amount of $65,000.00. Councilor Galamore duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. Mayor Sanders mentioned this home will not be demolished. Mayor Sanders called for any further discussion. Councilor Roberts stated we anticipate that we will be able to rent the property out. Mayor Sanders called for any further discussion. As there was no further discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote with the following results: Mayor Sanders-abstain; Councilor Galamore-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell- yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes as, Resolution 17-53 Public Comment: Allison Scanlan, Library Director, gave the Library report. Councilor Roberts moved to adjourn. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Motion carried.
