Council Minutes July 3, 2019 – 2:00 p.m. Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, July 3, 2019. Mayor Sanders led the invocation. Councilor Tanner led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Roll Call: Marie Turner, City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Mayor Sanders Councilor Tanner Councilor Galamore Councilor Churchwell Councilor McCain Absent: Councilor Roberts Minutes: Councilor Churchwell offered a motion to waive the reading of the June 20, 2019, minutes. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor Galamore made a motion to accept the minutes as written of the June 20, 2019, meeting. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders" Let the record reflect both motions passed unanimously". Committee Chair Comments: Councilor Tanner offered a motion to pay the bills in the amount of 40,534.23, a copy of the bills schedule is attached. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. Councilor Tanner mentioned some of the total is for the final payment of the floors at the Rock School. Mayor Sanders called for any further discussion. As there was no further discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders "Let the record reflect the motion passed unanimously." Enhancements: Councilor McCain mentioned the following upcoming events: Beat the Heat at Turkey Creek will be, July 20, the City will be giving out cool treats; and National Night Out will be held, August 6, 2019, at Bicentennial Park, adding the Splash Pad will be open and free to residents after 5 p.m Mayors Report: Mayor Sanders reminded everyone of the State Fireworks Law and noted this law is applicable in Pinson. Mayor Sanders added, the fireworks vendors are giving patrons a copy of the excerpt from the Code of Alabama. Councilor McCain offered a motion approving funding for Main Street creek cleaning at a cost of $1,800.00 per day for 5-7 days. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders stated he will advise council when he receives the total invoice. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Mayor Sanders, “Let the record reflect the motion passed unanimously”. Mayor Sanders suspended rules. Old Business: None, New Business: Councilor Tanner offered a motion to renew the principal supplement for PVHS with Jefferson County Board of Education, in the amount of $20,000.00. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Tanner-yes; Councilor Galamore-abstain; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, motion passes. Councilor Churchwell offered a resolution concerning Vulcan Materials and the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for unanimous consent to consider. Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Tanner-yes; Councilor Galamore-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion.
