Council Minutes November 21, 2019 – 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Mayor Sanders led the invocation. Councilor Galamore led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Mayor Sanders appointed Anjelea May, Acting City Clerk. Roll Call: Anjelea May, Acting City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Mayor Sanders Councilor Galamore Councilor Roberts Councilor McCain Absent: Councilor Tanner Councilor Churchwell Minutes: Councilor Roberts offered a motion to waive the reading of the November 7, 2019, minutes. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor McCain made a motion to accept the minutes as written of the November 7, 2019, meeting. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders" Let the record reflect both motions passed unanimously." Committee Chair Comments: Finance: Councilor Galamore made a motion to approve payment of the bills in the amount of $88,901.19 a copy of the bills schedule is attached. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders "Let the record reflect the motion passed unanimously." Education: Mayor Sanders stated Pinson Valley High School football team would be playing tomorrow night at Muscle Shoals. Enhancements: Councilor McCain mentioned there was a great turn out for the Veterans Day Luncheon. Councilor McCain announced the Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m. and the Tree Lighting would also be December 7 at 6 p.m. Mayor’s Report: Mayor Sanders mentioned Deerfoot Point Subdivision is nearing the requirement for annexation and should be able to go forward with annexation after the first of the year. Mayor Sanders reminded everyone the December 19 meeting will be at PHCC at 1 p.m. Mayor Sanders stated the audit would probably be presented at this meeting. Old Business: None New Business: Councilor McCain offered a resolution authorizing the city’s purchase of certain real property located at 3104 and 3108 Sweeney Hollow Road. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Galamore-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes unanimously as, Resolution 19-38. Mayor Sanders offered a first reading on a quote from Craft Electric in the amount of $1,828.39 to light the senior group banners that hang on the field house at Pinson Valley High School. Councilor Roberts offered a resolution appointing members to the Zoning Board of Adjustments of the City of Pinson, Alabama. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Galamore-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes unanimously as, Resolution 19-39. Councilor McCain offered a first reading on a quote from Dewon Moton in the amount of $1,500.00 for an angel wing mural. Mayor Sanders mentioned Mr. Turner, principal at Pinson Valley High School, was named Principal of the Year for District 5. Mayor Sanders mentioned the Pinson Valley High School Theatre Department has moved to the next round of competition and will be in Montevallo December 6 & 7 to perform. Mayor Sanders mentioned Ronnie Dixon was elected President of the Jefferson County Board of Education. Mayor Sanders also mentioned the Board set aside $300,000.00 to purchase new instruments. Public Comment: None Councilor McCain moved to adjourn. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Motion carried.
