Council Minutes January 16, 2020 – 7:00 p.m. Special Called Meeting The Pinson City Council met for a Special Called meeting in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Roll Call: Marie Turner, City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Mayor Sanders Councilor Roberts Councilor Churchwell Councilor McCain Absent: Councilor Tanner Councilor Galamore Mayor Sanders opened the public hearing regarding the abatement at 2812 Sweeney Hollow Circle. Mayor Sanders recognized Bob Jones, Director of Public Safety. Mr. Jones presented several pictures to council which included, a sagging roof line with the wall leaning to the outside; the back door missing; the ground exposed in the laundry room and kitchen with many floor boards missing; a picture of the refrigerator inside with boards drooping, falling, and splitting; the roof is rotting and the roof and porch line have separated from the back porch; many boards deteriorating and are crumbling and falling apart; Tarps that were placed on the house are rotted now and do no good; the porch handrails have disappeared and the steps are falling; the garage is separate building from the house but it has no roof. Mayor Sanders asked if Mr. Jones had any communication lately from the owner. Mr. Jones replied, no. Mayor Sanders stated the last communication with owner, Prince Patridge, Equity Cash, was in July. Mayor Sanders stated, “Let the record reflect there was no one present to speak for or against the abatement”. Mayor Sanders closed the public hearing. Councilor Roberts offered a resolution ordering the demolition of a building or structure located at 2812 Sweeney Hollow Circle, Pinson, Alabama, Parcel ID# 12-00-05-3-001-019, in compliance with Sections 11-40-30 through 11-40-36, Sections 11-53B-1 through 11-53B-16, inclusive, of the Code of Alabama, and in compliance with ordinance number 2016-16 of Pinson, Alabama; and calling for the city to cause said demolition to be performed and directing the city attorney and the city clerk to cause the cost of such demolition to be charged against the land on which the building or structure exists as a municipal lien or cause such cost to be recovered in a suit at law against the owner or owners. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote on the main resolution with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes unanimously as, Resolution 20-2. Councilor McCain offered a resolution confirming costs associated with abating a public nuisance at 2812 Sweeney Hollow Circle, in the amount of $1,390.11. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for a roll call vote on the main resolution with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes unanimously as, Resolution 20-3. Mayor Sanders announced Movies in May will be held each Friday in May as follows, 1; 8; 15; 22, and the 29th would be a rain date. Mayor Sanders stated CityFest will be held May 2, 2020 and we will host a Shred-thon on May 9, 2020. Councilor McCain moved to adjourn. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Motion carried. Adjourned at 7:33 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Marie Turner, City Clerk
