TOWN OF PITTSBORO BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FEBRUARY 15, 2024 SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES PAGE 1 OF 1 TOWN OF PITTSBORO The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners met in Special Session on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 3:00pm on the grounds at the Town of Pittsboro Water Treatment Plant, 3746 Highway 15-501 North, Pittsboro. ELECTED TOWN OFFICIALS PRESENT: Mayor Kyle Shipp, Commissioners John Bonitz, John Foley, and James Vose. TOWN STAFF PRESENT: Town Manager Jonathan Franklin, Assistant Town Manager/Director of Engineering Kent Jackson, Chief of Police Shorty Johnson, Public Information Officer/Emergency Management Coordinator Colby Sawyer, Water Treatment Plant ORC Cory Saulsbury and Town Clerk Carrie Bailey. Mayor Shipp conducted a press conference with Representative Robert Reives and Attorney General Josh Stein. The press conference was about water quality, and to share the Town's decision to implement a pilot study to test the efficacy of new technology to treat 1,4 dioxane, PFAS, and other contaminants. Mayor Shipp also shared the Board of Commissioners recent [ approval to issue a notice of intent to sue Apollo Chemical for violations of the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
