Recreation and Parks Commission Meeting

CITY OF PLACERVILLE RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION March17, 2021 MINUTES PRESENT: Recreation & Parks Commission: Jerry Barton, Kristin Becker, Andrew Mathews, and Peter Nolan. Recreation & Parks Staff: Terry Zeller and Matt Lishman. ABSENT: High School Representative Tiffany Brewster. GUESTS: ADOPTION OF AGENDA: Mr. Barton made a motion to adopt the agenda. Mr. Nolan seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mrs. Becker made a motion to approve the minutes of February 17, 2021. Mr. Barton seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT: None ACTION ITEMS: Duffey Park Community Garden Request: Mr. Zeller shared with the Commission this is a chance for the Commission to review and use a landscape buffer at Duffey Park as a community garden. The El Dorado High School Key Club will be maintaining this garden under the Kiwanis Club. Jayce Kaldunski is the president of the Key Club is proposing a garden that families from the Cottonwood apartments could get a space. They would like to create and adopt a grandparent or adopt a grandchild program so that a Senior Citizen could work with a Key Club member in the garden. Aubrey Bonham with the Key Club is currently working on fundraisers to help make this happen. They also are hoping to apply for some grants and work with Master Gardeners. The garden will be fenced in and a tool shed will be installed. The number of garden beds is still in the works. There will be a garden bed outside of the fence that homeless can take food from. Raised beds will be put in to help with the seniors. Mr. Zeller has done a few community gardens and will be helping with the layout. Mr. Barton made a motion to take recommendation to the City Council to use a portion of the landscape buffer at Duffey Park for the development and operation of a community garden by the El Dorado High School Key Club. Mrs. Becker 2nd the motion. Motion approved unanimously. STAFF REPORTS Recreation for Youth Fund: Mr. Lishman reported that since the last report there were 0 requests for funding. The projected fund balance is $4,215.77. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 pm
