Special Meeting of Tuesday, July 30, 2019
BE IT KNOWN THAT, a Special Meeting of the Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission of City
of Richwood was held Tuesday, July 30, 2019, beginning at 3:00 PM in the Richwood City Hall,
1800 N. Brazosport Blvd. Richwood, Texas.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 3:09 p.m.
INVOCATION
The invocation was led by Audrey Johnson.

Others present: Giani Cantu, City Secretary; Tara Riley, Resident
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Brittany Figaro reported that there is a lot of construction materials being disposed of or making
their way into the ditches in the new K. Hovanian development areas.
Ms. Cantu reported she will notify the building official consultant and have them inspect.
Ms. Jackson-Ellis asked that a code enforcement officer be appointed by Council.
Ms. Cantu stated that the position is in midst of decision due to Building Official retirement. At
moment, permitting clerk does drive through the City two days a week.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
On motion by Kimberly Mayer second by Brittany Figaro with all present members voting
“aye” the minutes of July 11, 2010 were approved.
REPORTS ON RECENT EVENTS
All American Night - July 13
Kimberly reported it was a great turnout approx. 200 people. Officers stated it was the largest
event in sometime. The brisket was hit and ran out.
Janet Jackson-Ellis asked how they did on budget.
Kimberly stated she believes it was enough and may have come under. Last she knew it was at
$450.00. However, there were a few more purchases. They may reassess the movie late after an
event and new signage may be needed.
Ms. Jackson-Ellis thanked the committee for their attendance and work at the event.
Community Litter Index - July 15 or 16
Denise Green reported each committee member went individually to perform the community
litter index. One report is needed and then data can be compiled and presented by due date
August 1.
Audrey asked what happens after its turned in.
Denise stated that a report is compiled for how much litter is in area and Brazoria County.
Brittany asked what is original Richwood?
Audrey stated that original Richwood is the area right near Dollar General.
DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS
Discussion on Five Year Strategic Plan 2019-2022
Kimberly no other work since last meeting. Would like to set a date in August to hold a
workshop to discuss the financials and projects proposed.
Janet would like to include replacing shrubbery as a project.
Kimberly can add to discussion at the workshop.
The workshop was set for Thursday, August 22 at 12:45 p.m.
Discussion and possible action on upcoming events
Bench Dedication at Bobby Ford Park to Ophilia - August 10
Kimberly reported that it is the same date as the Keep Polk Beautiful event. However, she will
be happy to take a break and come over.
Janet asked staff to ensure that a ribbon is ordered and the plaque is mounted prior to event.
The event will take place at 10:00 a.m.
Keep Polk Beautiful event - August 10
Kimberly reported the event will take place from 8:00a to 12:00p and asked if the City could
budget to bring water, Gatorade and juice pouches for the volunteers.
On motion by Kimberly Mayer second by Brittany Figaro with all present members voting aye
a budget of $100 was approved to provide refreshments for Keep Polk Beautiful event.
Back to School: Stuff the Bus/Car Event
The committee decided to combine this event with movie night.
The event was set for August 24th with collection of supplies at city hall and the school, August
19-23. The time was set to start at 7:00 p.m.
Discussion was held on bounce houses, pizza and concession items for event.
On motion by Kimberly Mayer second by Audrey Johnson with all present members voting
“aye” the committee approved $200 for school supplies.
On motion by Kimberly Mayer second by Audrey Johnson with all present members voting
“aye” the committee approved $1000 for other event items.
Discussion was held on possible movie ideas and cartoon ideas.
No further discussion was held.
Movie Night
Discussion was held with Back to School event.
2019 Fall Clean-up and City Wide Garage Sale - November 14-16
Garage sale will be Thurs – Sat. Clean Up will be Saturday.
Denise advised the group still needs to consider project ideas.
National Night Out - October 1
Ms. Cantu reported that the event will be led by the Police Department. Committee
consideration should involve committee participation.
Trunk or Treat - October 25
Ms. Ellis stated she thought it worked great on the street.
Christmas in the Park - December 14
No discussion was held on this item.
Future Event Recommendations
No discussion was held on this item.
Discuss and consider committee shirts
Ms. Cantu reported she would like to have a nice shirt and a t-shirt design option at the
September meeting.
Discussion and possible action on scheduling a committee workday
No discussion was held on this item.
SET NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting will be held on August 6, 2019.
