CITY OF ROSWELL – COMMISSION ON AGING MINUTES July 17, 2013 Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4 NMSA 1978 and Resolution 13-16. Commissioners present: Lynne Ybarra, Dusty Huckabee, Bob McCrea, Morgan Nelson, Tom Dunlap. Commissioners absent: Julie Adams, Charlie Phillips and Bonnie Montgomery. The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Chair Lynne Ybarra at the former La Villa Assisted Living, Facility now owned by Emeritus. Commissioners introduced themselves to the guests in attendance. As there wasn’t a quorum for the June meeting there were no minutes to approve. Tom Dunlap introduced Vanessa Kahin, the reporter from the Roswell Daily Record. She will be writing an article on the Commission for “Vista”. Much of the meeting was spent explaining our role, history and current concerns to her. The date for the Commission’s annual Senior Forum is August 27th at 6:30 PM at First Baptist Church. It will be televised on channel 75. The panel will be composed of Dr. Reynaldo Martinez and Jane Batson and Tom Dunlap as moderator. Information was shared that the Farmers’ Market at the Court House gives senior citizens stamps for discounts with the vendors. The topics will be local indigent care services and Obamacare in New Mexico. We also learned that Emeritus has been approved for assisted living services through the Medicaid community services waiver program.
