Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting February 24, 2014 6:00 pm Members Present: Bob Edwards, James Edwards, Mandy Owens, Dwain Brown Others Present: James Patterson, Larry Connolly, Jared Kullunki, Elaine Mayfield The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was held at the Parks and Recreation Conference room and called to order at 6:03 pm by Bob Edwards. Mandy Owens motioned to approve the agenda, James Edwards seconded and all were in favor. James Edwards motioned to approve the January 27, 2014 minutes, Mandy Owens seconded and all were in favor. Community Comments- James Edwards asked about the opening for the Parks and Recreation Directors position. Elaine Mayfield stated no changes had been made and the position was opened until filled. Roswell Aircraft Flyers Association- Elaine Mayfield stated a lease was made to the University for the Truck Driving Classes on the runway north and south, and that is where the Aircraft Flyers have been permitting since 1983. This is the third permit renewal of the truck driving permit. James stated that this is the first year for eastern to have the program. Previously the trucking program was from Artesia and they trained across the street from the college. Bob Edwards stated that part of the property that the truckers are using is private property. City attorney stated that Barbara Patterson and Larry Fry are working to see what course to take. Aircraft flyers use from the bull’s eye to the number 6 on the ground, the trucker’s use the area are after that. Dwain Brown motioned to table this topic until further information is gathered, Mandy Owens seconded and all were in favor. Missouri Avenue Park Grand Opening Dedication- Bob Edwards stated he contacted Mr. Craven and spoke about getting the kids involved with the opening. Mr. Craven was going to speak with the superintendent. Elaine Mayfield stated the opening was scheduled for May 8, 2014 at 9:30 am. Unfinished Business There was no unfinished business New Business Elaine has contact Andrew Dunn and has started proceedings with the Invaders contract. The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was scheduled for March 31, 2014 at 6 pm, at the Parks and Recreation Conference room. Mandy Owens motioned to adjourn, Dwain Brown seconded and all were in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:42 pm.
