Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Regular Meeting Minutes February 7, 2018 6:30 PM The Parks and Recreation Commission of the Town of Sahuarita met in the Sahuarita Council Chambers, 375 West Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, AZ 85629 on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. I. BUSINESS 1. Fiesta Sahuarita Logo Contest Winner Award Presentation Danielle Durnal, Business Development Representative of Hughes Federal Credit Union, awarded Fiesta Sahuarita Logo Contest winner Fernanda Lerma with a $100.00 check for drawing the winning logo. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 2. Sahuarita Teen Advisory Council (STAC) Presentation Sahuarita Teen Advisory Council (STAC) President Elizabeth Hoover provided an update on STAC. Thomas inquired about the process to join STAC. Zatkin thanked STAC for their service. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 3. Presentation and Discussion on a Proposal for an Inclusive, Accessible Playground in Sahuarita Thomas gave a presentation on her ideas for an inclusive park. Holly Miller, Dr. Palumbo, Kimberly Molthan, Athena Delgado, Slomara Enriquez, Sarah Dachtyl, Lora Nastase, Phyllis Bannister, Marianne Scott, and Council Member Egbert provided their perspectives and spoke in favor of an inclusive playground. Ahern and Huckins thanked Thomas for the presentation. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 4. Employee Recognition Submittal(s) Huckins summarized the Employee Award nomination by Brian De Breceny for Mark Ferguson, Maintenance Worker . The nomination was approved. Luna volunteered to provide the gift card, and the presentation will be scheduled for March 7, 2018, pending confirmation of employee availability. Director/Commissioner Reports Director Nanette Smejkal introduced herself to the commission. Smejkal is in the process of finalizing the budget to meet the upcoming submittal deadline. Council approved the Llano Grande Trail Head Maintenance Intergovernmental Agreement; now pending approval by the Pima County Board of Supervisors. The K-8 school sports light poles are installed but not yet functional. The project is ahead of schedule and staff will propose a budget fund transfer to council to complete the final field during this phase of construction. Parks and Facilities Manager Brian De Breceny retired after 16 years of service. Interviews for his replacement are scheduled for February 16, 2018. Site preparation for the maintenance facility began in January; infrastructure, paving and fencing. The building is in a future phase. A new rain gauge is installed at Quail Creek - Veterans Municipal Park. The new gauge is in sync with the irrigation system. Maintenance worker Mark Ferguson took the lead on the Recreation Center soffit repair project. There are a lot of recreational activities being offered at the Recreation Center. Staff is adding new sessions to meet programming demands. The Fiesta Sahuarita T-Shirts will be ready at the end of February. There is a combined total of $15,000 in monetary and in kind sponsorship. Food vendor spaces are sold out and business vendors are at 50%. Activities and entertainment include an inflatable world, Ferris wheel, live music, egg hunt. Blue Monsoon will perform at the March 3, Concert at the Lake, and Fiesta Sahaurita March 31. There were 120 people at the February concert. Luna thanked staff for completing the batting cage at North Santa Cruz Park. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY VI. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS 1.
