Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Regular Meeting Minutes June 5, 2019 6:30 PM The Parks and Recreation Commission of the Town of Sahuarita met in the Sahuarita Council Chambers, 375 West Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, AZ 85629 on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. I. BUSINESS 1. Parks and Recreation Design and Development Standards Manual (PRADSM): Status of Proposed Revisions Smejkal summarized the outcome of Council's May 13 review of the proposed Parks and Recreation Development and Design Standards Manual (PRADSM). Staff will discuss concerns with stakeholders during summer meetings, and take the PRADSM back to Council after the Council's summer break. . RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 2. Update on Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Request Smejkal presented the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) plan reviewed by Council at the May 28 budget study session. Discussion ensued. The proposed CIP plan will move forward along with the Fiscal 20 operating budget at the June 10 Council meeting. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 3. Commissioner Attendance at the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA) Conference Allen, Thomas and Huckins will attend the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association Conference. Staff will register Commissioners for the conference. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 4. Selection of Commissioner to Participate on Park Utility Box Artist Panel The Town contracted with Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) to provide management of a public art placemaking project using several park utility boxes. SAACA selected the finalists for panel review. M. Ahern volunteered to participate on the selection panel as the Commission representative. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY V. COMMISSIONER AND DIRECTOR REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS 1. Director and Commissioner Reports Allen attended the June Concert at the Lake. The Department is on target to complete the Fiscal 19 projects by the end of June; staff is completing additional projects where there is capacity. Planned projects nearing completion include Anza Trail ball field renovations, landscaping refurbish at Quail Creek - Veterans Municipal, North Santa Cruz and Sahuarita Lake, and riprap replacement at Parque los Arroyos. An Eagle Scout completed basketball court repairs, and repainted pickleball striping at Anza Trail. At the request of the public, staff replaced the drinking fountain at Sahuarita Lake with a bottle filling station, and installed barrier fencing at North Santa Cruz and Regular Meeting Minutes- June 5, 2019 Page 2 of 3 Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Parque los Arroyos to complement the new pickleball lines on the basketball court. Staff improved field access at Quail Creek - Veterans Municipal by installing ramps and gates. There were 430 in attendance at the ticketed event Sabrosita Sahuarita. Zatkin suggested an increase in marketing targeted at Quail Creek residents for next year’s event. Tunes at Town Hall is on June 20 and will feature a jazz ensemble. The nine-week aquatics program began June 1 at the Sahuarita Unified School District’s Aquatics facility. Summer Open Rec is under way Monday - Thursday afternoon with maximum registration of 120, and an average daily attendance of 100. The first annual Daddy Daughter dance is June 15. Tennis and cooking lessons are under way. To commemorate the Town’s 25th Anniversary staff is offering a self- paced Sahuarita Tri 25, June 25 - July 25. The 4th of July celebration will feature food trucks, entertainment, kids’ activities, Whatever Floats Your Boat races and fireworks. The event is 6 - 10 p.m. at Sahuarita Lake. Zatkin suggested the Sahuarita Teen Advisory Council (STAC) plan summer activities for teens. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY VI. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS 1. Future Agenda Items RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY VII. Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Agenda Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.02 notice is hereby given to the public that the Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Commission will hold a meeting at the date and time specified below at the Sahuarita Town Hall Council Chambers, 375 West Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, Arizona. Members of the Commission will attend either in person or by telephone conference call. To better serve our community, the Council Chambers is wheelchair accessible.
