Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Regular Meeting Minutes September 2, 2020 6:30 PM The Parks and Recreation Commission of the Town of Sahuarita met in the Sahuarita Council Chambers, 375 West Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, AZ 85629 on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. I. BUSINESS 1. Trail Standards and Definitions Vice Chairperson Erin Thomas arrived at 6:36 p.m. Director Nanette Smejkal called for discussion of the draft definitions and excerpted trail standards from the "Pima Regional Trail System Master Plan" (PRTSMP) provided to Commissioners at the August meeting. Discussion ensued. Commissioner Jeff Ahern inquired if staff felt that any of the excerpted standards do not match the needs of the Town. Smejkal explained that staff had only selected PRTSMP excerpts they thought fit best. Vice Chairperson Thomas asked if existing trails that do not meet the proposed standards would be grand fathered in. Smejkal stated this was correct. New standards will only affect trails built after adoption. Due to the technical nature of the definitions and standards, the commissioners felt that a consensus could be made without further discussion. Chairperson Huckins moved to recommend that the Town should adopt the definitions as drafted and adopt the trail standards from the PRTSMP. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. All Commissioners present agreed. COMMISSIONER AND DIRECTOR REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS 1. Director and Commissioner Reports Smejkal provided results of the artist review panel. Chairperson Huckins and Commissioner Michele Ahern participated. Four artists were selected to complete five mural installations within Anamax Park, North Santa Cruz Park, Quail Creek Veterans-Municipal Park, and Parque Los Arroyos. Mural installations will likely begin in October. Tree inventory volunteer training and the first round of counting took place August 29 at Anamax Park. Commissioner Allen participated. Inventory will take place September 12, 19 and 26. Park Foreman Phil Clark has tendered his resignation. Recruitment is underway to fill this key position. Upcoming programming includes a virtual Town Tribute event, in person Fall Break Camp, and a drive through Trunk or Treat for Halloween as well as fitness and other programs. Sports field and ramada reservations have resumed with group size restrictions. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY VI. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS 1. Future Agenda Items Chairperson Huckins asked to receive and discuss the calendar year 2021 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting schedule in November. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY VII.
