Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting – Draft Minutes Monday, March 14, 2022, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely Members Present: Tyler Carlton, Gabriel Yeager, Amy Stewart, Tayla Thompson, Andrew Boucher, Elizabeth McGovern, Lynne Mullen Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo 1. Call to Order: 6:33 p.m. 2. Approval of January 24, 2022 minutes: Approved unanimously with Amy abstaining as she was absent for the meeting. 3. Financial Updates: Education Fund January receipts: $284.87 February receipts: $435.75 Current balance: $7,402.04 Scholarship Fund January receipts: $369.65 February receipts: $313.00 Current balance: $8,659.48 4. Old Business a. Fundraising Updates: Tyler suggested that the donation request letters be sent out again to cannabis establishments. Dominick will update those and send drafts to Tyler. Liz asked about upcoming in-person events that might present opportunities to fundraiser. Tyler suggested the North Shore Pride parade and festival in June and Dominick suggested the Salem Arts Festival, also in June. Tyler will reach out to the organizers of both events about opportunities for the committee to fundraise at them. 5. New Business a. Discussion/vote on in-person meetings: Dominick explained that the modified state law now allows for remote meeting through July 15 th. Liz suggested remaining remote for as long as the law allows it and the rest of the committee agreed. b. 2022 scholarship applications: Dominick pointed out that only two scholarship applications have been received so far, though applications usually come in closer to the May 31st deadline as more students finalize their college plans. Committee members were encouraged to promote the scholarships and Dominick will ask the Mayor to plug them on her social media pages. 6. If any public comment is permitted, members of the public who have “raised their hand” in Zoom will be called on by the chair to offer comment. In order to raise a hand, member of the public using the Zoom computer or phone application may click the “Raise Hand” button; members of the public dialing in may press “*9” to raise their hand to speak. No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means.
