Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting – Draft Minutes
Monday, September 12, 2022, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely
Members Present: Cynthia Nina-Soto (Vice Chair), Amy Stewart, Liz McGovern, Lynne Mullen, Brian
Eiermann (non-voting)

1. Call to Order: 6:32 p.m.
2. Approval of August 1, 2022 minutes: Approved unanimously
3. Financial Updates:

4. Old Business
a. Fundraising Updates: Dominick shared that the recent change in the state’s cannabis laws
regarding host agreements means cannabis companies will likely no longer be making
charitable donations. The committee asked if Tyler would be busking at Haunted
Happenings this year. Dominick will make up fliers and signage again for the City’s
October shuttles sharing the text-to-donate information.
b. Logo: Only one student submitted two designs, so Lynne will reopen the contest and
publicize it to the schools. Liz asked about expanding it to all students in Salem grades 5-
12, whether or not they are in SPS, and offering a prize of some kind. The committee
approved opening it up more broadly and set a submission deadline of December 11 th at
midnight, for the submissions to be considered at the December committee meeting. Prize
will be a basket of art supplies and art supply store gift card that committee members
offered to donate.
c. Thank you letters: The committee unanimously approved a policy to have thank you
letters mailed annually at the conclusion of the fiscal year to any donor to either fund who
gave in excess of $50. Dominick will draft the letters with Tyler and work to send them
out.
5. New Business - Set October meeting date due to holiday. Committee selected October 17 th.

members of the public dialing in may press “*9” to raise their hand to speak.
No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be
made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via
technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so, despite best efforts, we will post
on the city’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of
proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting.
