properties within the City of Salinas, and direct the Finance Director to collect

COUNCILMEMBERS’ REPORTS, APPOINTMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Councilmember Craig reported that she hosted a community meeting with the residents

of Tyler Street and Iris Drive where they received a 90-day traffic report. It has been
determined that there is a need for traffic calming measures, vehicle abatement, street
repairs.
Councilmember Barrera commended the Library and Community Services Department for
the programs they offer in the Alisal area. Councilmember Barrera encouraged residents
in the community to ensure they are abiding with local laws and regulations, particularly
as they relate to beautification and vehicle abatement.
Councilmember De La Rosa announced that the Head Start program is returning to the
Hebbron Family Center. She added that she attended the El Gabilan Library planning
meeting and looks forward to the input from the community. She announced the holiday
event at the Hebbron Family Center.
Councilmember Lutes stated that between 2009 and 2013, many cities throughout the
state of California declared bankruptcy. She added that the City of Salinas did not
declare bankruptcy as a result of working with City employee measures such as
furloughs, salary deferrals and layoffs. Councilmember Lutes expressed support of city
employees and stated that the Council worked very hard on the passage of Measure E
and Measure G in efforts to restore services. Councilmember Lutes reported that she
attended Anna Caballero’s swearing in for State Assembly and added that Mrs. Caballero
will be a vital asset to the City. In closing, Councilmember Lutes commended her
volunteers that served on City Commissioners representing District 6 on her behalf during
her terms in office.
Councilmember Castaneda commended and encouraged Councilmember Lutes to
continue to serve the City in some capacity. Councilmember Castaneda stated that he
hopes that Councilmember Elect Scott Davis continues to address the issues
surrounding housing, homelessness, and public safety. Councilmember Castaneda
requested the meeting adjourn in memoriam of Larry Hosford.
Councilmember McShane announced the upcoming Holiday Home Lighting Competition.
Councilmember McShane expressed concerns regarding employee negotiations and
recommended the City and the bargaining units maintain open lines of communication
throughout the process. Councilmember McShane expressed appreciation for
Councilmember Jyl Lutes' and Jose Castaneda’s years of service to the City of Salinas.
He added that he has a great level of respect for both Jyl and Jose for the numerous
hours of service they provided at a local, county or state level.
